Exclamation Problem

As im sure we all know, if your security system is turned on (which mine always is). and you lock your car with the remote when you return the next time you must then un lock it with the remote to disarm the system. If you try to use your key in the door it will set off as soon as you open it up...... my delima is simple: when i last left my car i locked it with the remote. When i returned to unlock it tonight the remote didn't work you could push all day long and get nothing. (I assume the battery in my clicker finally gave up). I know there is a procedure for this kind of situation when an svx owner for some reason or another is unable to use his remoteand must use the key to get in, to disarm the system in some alternate manuel way(i would look in my owner's manuel but it is in the glove box).

I am wondering....does anyone have this procedure readily availble or memorized or any other useful info to get past the problem?? Thanks so much in advance....DREW

If you unlock it with the key, you should have 20 seconds to start the car before the alarm goes off. Starting the car always turns the alarm off.

You can find replacement batteries at Radio Shack, they sell 1 battery that replaces all 5000 batteries in the remote.

I already know that i do not have have 20 seconds if i use the key. I have accedentally used the key before and in the past it has gone off the instant i open the door. Thank you for the idea though it is much appreciated and it may come down to that

Well, I'm positive the alarm goes off when you start it. I have set my alarm off many times, and it always goes off when i start it.

Exclamation

From my '92 SVC manual:
If the remote transmitter is lost or damaged... the emergency bypass feature allows the engine to be started with the system armed...
1. enter the vehicle
Note: the alarm will sound...
2. securely close the door
Note: do NOT change the position of the security switch or leave the doors or trunk open, otherwise the alarm will sound for 10 minutes before the engine can be started
3. turn ON the parking light switch. My note: this switch is just to the left of the steering column, to the right of the mirror adjustment switches. It is marked with a "P"
Note: alarm will sound for 2 minutes
4. start the engine by turning the ignition switch
5. turn OFF the parking light switch
6. contact your Subaru Dealer to replace the lost or damaged remote transmitter
Note: the emergency by-pass will not affect the normal operation of the headlights

Hope this helps. Have fun & wear ear plugs.
