Interesting convo.

I was working on my car today and a guy came by and asked me a few questions. The conversation went like this:

him: Hey that's a nice car.
me: thank you
him: Is it a ford (yes my car is fully debadged. It just says SVX)
me: no it's a subaru
him: Is it a honda
me: no it's a Subaru SVX
him: damn, nice car.
me: thank you
him: wanna race?
me: nope thanks.

He was driving a v8 american muscle car. I'd race with him if it was snowey and a little more slippery.

i had one of those last night when i was leaving my friends house. i go to the street where my car is parked and i hear a voice from across the street "hey that is a real nice car. is it a mitzubishi?" i just laughed. then he asked if he could come over and take a look at it and i said sure. we talked about it for a while and i showed him the engine and the windows and told him a little about the car. then he asked if i wanted to see his...my eyes almost bugged out of my head. a really late mustang in perfect condition was in his driveway....i just dropped my jaw. he asked to race me at island and i said "hell no!" gotta LOVE ford, but he gave me a lot of props on my car...is that a 2003? i never saw it before...LOL!

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

When I was putting gas in my car the other day, a guy jumps out of a car that had just pulled up and started taling to me before the car had even come to a complete stop. (his wife or g/f was driving) He know all about the SVX, but had not seen very many of them We had a long conversation about the cars and all of the options, and the woman with him almost had to drag him back to the car he had come in. He had admired them for years, but had never owned one. He said the the window were what tipped him off to what it was. It was fun talking to him. What surprised me was that he knew so much about the car, but had never owned one.

I had that happen about a week ago. Started talking to some dude, then I told him I got it for 3600 bucks. He freaked out, telling me how he feels ripped off since he paid 4500 for his camry. :P

A few months ago, I was trying to find a place to fix the bolt sticking out of my tire when some guy in a minivan started yelling at me while I was driving. He asked me if I was wanting to sell it, because he was looking to buy one. Maybe could have sold it at a profit, who knows? Also last week a couple of people working the drive-thru at McDonalds were noticing the windows (happens a lot at drive-thrus), so I gave them a demonstration. They thought at first that I had modified them, hehe

What facinates me is that highschool kids know what this car is. I think we are somewhat "singular" in our love for this model. It surprises when some kid working a drive thru knows the car or better still almost knows the car. One kid said, "Hey isn't that a SVT?..No wait, that's Ford..[pause] .it's an SVX right?! I think those cars are great!".

That's when I know that the kid does lnow something about cars.

It's alot of fun.

A lot of the highschool kids and the kids that just got out of highschool know what they are because in Gran Turismo 2 you had to buy one to complete the game, it was a special race at the subaru dealer in the game. At least that's why I think they know about them.

That's funny. My car has also been mistaken for a Ford. I think its because the SVX rear end looks similar to the 1st gneration Ford Probe/Mazda MX6.

Hey Lwin,

Is this considered evil, sneaky, cheap or just plain fun for the SVX owner?

I call it checking the true ability of the car.

You just can't get a better deal than an SVX for a dollar a pound.

I'm a huge Gran Turismo fan, and if the SVX doesn't make it back into the game for GT4, I'll be severely disappointed.

I can understand it being cut for GT3 - they had a short production schedule and the time it took to make the models increased by a great deal. But, dammit, I want the SVX back in for GT4.

I'll even accept it back in the game with the actual transmission and not a fabled 5-speed.

There's an SVX in GT2?! Cool! I might have to bust that out again! I hope they include more 'normal' cars in GT4... GT2 was a blast because there were so many weird stupid cars you could modify, like billions of civics, all sorts of weird european models I've never heard of. AND it had Neon ACRs. I had mine black. :P

The SVX was included in both GT and GT2. It didn't make the cut in GT3, but then neither did the vast majority of 'used' cars in the game.

I had hoped that the SVX concept would make it into GT: Concept Tokyo. But it didn't. They may have only included really recent concepts for that release.

But, yeah, GT2 had an incredible number of cars in it - including the Subaru 360. I doubt that GT4 will have anywhere near the number of cars as GT2. But I still expect 4 to be the advance over 3 that 2 was over 1. Make sense? Good.

Because they could vastly increase the detail on the cars for GT3, each takes about five times as long to make as they did in the previous two games

In the meantime, racing game junkies should check out the FIA-licensed WRC game for the PS2. I don't care for arcadey racers any more - I prefer them to be as sim-like as possible. WRC doesn't disappoint. It hasn't exactly been a hit, so you can probably find a used copy at your local EB like I did.

Yeah, that WRC game RULES! It was pretty easy though... I beat most of it. One thing that I really liked doing was just goofing off in it; hauling and getting the fastest speed possible, then hitting the side and flipping off a 200ft cliff tumbling all the way down. AWESOME!
