Steel wheels for snows

I would think that these rims would work for 205mm or 215mm wide snow tires on the SVX:

Anyone see any issues aside from possibly needing hubcentric rings?

Or don't worry about the hubcentric rings. Invest the money in good lugnuts or ARP wheelstuds or something if you just want to spend it.

Are you talking about using stock lugs for lug-centric mounting of the rims?

Stock lug nuts will do the job just fine (after all, your spare wheel is steel, and the car doesn't come with extra nuts), but the better option would be to pick up a set of generic 12x1.25 acorn nuts from any garage.

No one uses hub-centric rings with steel wheels.

I wouldn't like to use the stock lugs as the seating surface is quite small.

Fine for 50 miles on a wheel you won't use again. Not so much for a whole winter.

Had no issues for the "fun" winter driving I was doing on my silver with 4.44 gears and 16" nissan steelies. Seated perfectly on them and no signs of wobble/wear on the lugs or rims when I removed them.

Those will work, but I prefer the closed style nuts (Like these). Open type let all the salt and crap off the road into the threads and make a mess of them, the closed ones protect the studs.

For less than $200 you can pick up a set of stock rims that will hold 215's.

Makes sense. Do you prefer the chrome plated nuts or the nuts with the stainless steel caps?

Where and in what condition?

I was offered a free set from a gem of a board member but they would likely need to be painted or powder coated. I am Italian but far from Michelangelo so I would need it done by an expert and that costs around $280 which puts me right back to where I started. I am also slightly concerned about mounting a tire that narrow on the stock 7.5" rims. Technically they should fit but it is pushing the upper specifications of the tires.

For now I am keeping an eye on ebay and craigslist for Mazda 6, Honda Prelude, Honda Accord V6, Acura TL or Acura RSX rims. They were all supposedly 55mm offset, 5X114.3mm bolt diameter and 6.5" or 7" wide rims.

Ditto. 205/55/16 Blizzaks on stock wheels for 3 years without any problems at all (and I'm not gentle on how I drive in the winter)

Chris, every time you post one of those pictures, it reminds me that I need to come up and visit one winter...

Tony, IMO 20 minutes with a wire brush and a couple coats of silver in a spray can would look much better than black steel rims.
