Reading 13 Dates

.

Seems like here are your options in 2012.

The original Reading meets were traditionally on the first weekend in April. However, it proved to be too cold and it was then moved to the third weekend in April. Here is what we have.

APRIL

First weekend is out. Easter falls on April 8
Second weekend is out. Income tax filing weekend

Third weekend: April 20-22

Last weekend: April 27-29

MAY

First weekend: May 4-6
Second weekend is out. Mother's Day is May 13

Third weekend: May 18-20
Last weekend is out. Memorial Day Weekend

I'll start a poll later once we get a general consensus and we can refine it. Seems like the last weekend in APRIL would satisfy both groups. Still early enough to avoid the complications that May brings, yet the good possibility of warmer weather later in April.

I am not going to have any input or influence on the poll and will not vote for a preference. Whenever the date is chosen, I will contact the hotel and give them a heads up as to what we are doing.

IMHO, the best option to remove Reading from conflicts with Carlisle and final exams/university graduations.

I completely agree. The conflict with Carlisle this year was not very good.

You mean the last weekend in April? You just deemed the last weekend in May as out!

I still prefer the earlier of the two April weekends. I don't care about Carlisle, I don't attend classes, and the local race schedule tends to start right around the turn of the month. May just leans too far into summer's other obligations.

Re: Reading 13 Dates

It is impossibe to predict the weather but you can go to weatherunderground.com enter in the town and then go to the history link and get "averages" for temperature and precipitation. If two dates appear to be a tossup, we can go with the one that it usually drier. Up until this summer, we have planned our summer vacations around the third week in August because that is the week that is usually driest up in Maine near the end of the summer when the water is warmest. It has worked out well so far.

Re: Reading 13 Dates

I like the idea of the last weekend in April... The weather was good in May but since 2007 (My first Reading) only last year did the weather not cooperate in April.

I only have a week between spring finals and first week of summer classes so this would increase the chances of me being able to go.

thank you! (both Mikes)

I would vote for either April date but the later one would most likely be best.

May 18-20, 2012 is Carlisle for anyone who cares.

The averages are above. Don't let the small differences in precipitation fool you. A small difference means a big difference in probability of precipitation because you are averaging something like 100 years of rain.

That's all I needed to see.. Warmer is always better. Anything below 60 is FREEZING! We just need to face facts here and accept that the climate is changing. It's staying colder longer now. The closer to the summer, the better.

Each day is just as awesome as the last...

Friday is a "come if you feel like it" day and a chance to catch a few early birds. Saturday is the "main event" with dinner, sometimes a drive, an auction, etc. and Sunday is the day to leave. Mostly nobody leaves Saturday night cause they are up till nearly 3am or later.
