Unhappy I got backed into!

My SVX got backed into by a kid on his first day of getting his driver licence!! The damage is over the driver rear wheel well, pushing the area in about 1". The car was moved side way about 8 inches from the accident. What I want to know is do I have to worry about the wheel bearings from this? What else I should look at? My main concern is having some thing else fail later from this incident. Any suggestion is appreciated.

I hate that when that happens. On a serious note, if someone runs into my car, I wish they total it. I mean it. I don't like fixing small problems after an accident. I can't tell for sure what could go wrong. check for everything and make the insurance people pay.

Don't just have them look at cosmetics during the estimate. If the car is tweaked, it can be brought back, but it needs to be checked out thoroughly. It probably didn't damage the bearings, but it could have bent a suspension part or two.

Thanks for the feed back. I spoke with the shop technician earlier today and he said that he wouldn't be surprised if there were damage. So, I 'd have to leave the car with him for a few days. I am so bumbed out. I just got the car back after 3 months at the shop waiting for a Level 10 tranny. Now this!

check wheel alignment

I recently got a 4 wheel alignment, and I'd suggest you include doing that as well. It
would tell you if anything was out of whack,
and if you have a printout from a previous
check, you could see the amount of change.

Yeah, the alignment! I just had it done the day before the kid wacked me. This is such a cruel joke. The estimate for the body work came back around $1,400.00. The kid's parents had an episode of sticker shock and tried to get me to go to a different body shop. They decided to pay out of pocket instead of going through the insurance company. It is making me kinda uncomfortable having to deal with the offending party so intimately. I feel their pain. As for repair, the idea of having bondo on the car is driving me nuts! I feel so violated! I'll be dropping the car off at the service shop today for them to look at the suspension.

I think the whole rear quarter should be replaced if you want it done right. Isnt that true? I dont think I would settle for anything less.
