When I press the button, the 'power' light comes on, but the button won't stay down. So, I assume the switch is broken. If I can find a way of getting to it I can take a closer look.

You have to remove the fake wood panel of the shifter first. Then you will see 4 bolts (if i still remember) on the 4 sides of the lower black panel of the shifter. the rest is easy...
Be careful how to remove the Faux Wood thing... it might broke

SVX's outside North America usually have it right next to their shifter. It's a selector switch for normal, power or economy.
now THEY truly have "Power on demand"

Is it just a matter of levering off the fake wood, or is there a trick way of releasing it?

An old (80 something) Toyota Camary my parents owned had one up on the dash (so even "American" cars had em'), it allowed you to leave the shift points in a specific mode.

I'm confused (so what else is new? )
I have the extra button on my shifter, but it just allows me to toggle in and out of economy mode. Is that what you're talking about? It doesn't make my Power light come on. I have to hit the gas to light up the Power light. |

On the SVX the power button was only on ones built for certin markets (and Im not positive, but I think also only in certin years) Im sure someone here can tell you which one's have it and which don't.
