Hi Beav, I need an airbox for a 2001 ZTS . The bolts/nuts that hold the top on were rusted into nothing and would not come apart. Mechanic at Gene Butman Ford drilled out the old and put in a nut, but now you have to take the airbox out to get to the nuts to change the filter. New the airbox is around $100.00. I'm looking for less. Take care, BOBB

We rarely work on anything smaller than a 3.0 (Lincoln dealer) so I can't offer any "laying in the corner' parts. Would a trip to Home Depot's nut & bolt aisle possibly help? There's normally enough odd stuff there to come up with an imaginative solution. Then there is always the trip to the boneyard option...

Ford parts

Hi Beav, Substituting with a non-standard part is what was done by the dealer. I was just trying to see how cheap I could get a replacement part. I'm good to go till I need to replace the air filter again. Thanks for helping out. Most appreciated. Take care, BOBB

Gotta love ford. A 2001 has parts rust away into oblivion. Yeah, that sounds about right. My brand new 2005 Interceptor, with 122 miles on it as of yesterday, has been in TWICE to get the door locks repaired. Yep.

Yeah, Ford's engineers screwed up and forgot to factor in the people with chalk dust and twinkie crumb encrusted fingers sitting behind bowling alleys and donut shops playing with the buttons for eight hours each day.

Give it up, you're only impressing yourself.

Thats odd. I found absolutely no amusement in a Juvenile attempt to insult a member of this forum who would place there own life in danger to protect the innocent from harm.

Well if you happened to understand that Beav is a mechanic for a lincoln/mercury dealer and that Ford has provided an opportunity that is his career for some number of years, you'd understand that one person insulting another person's career is just as bad as the other. So learn to know what you're talking about before you jump in.

Not to mention if the police in this country did truly exist only to protect the innocent from harm it might be a different story. He chose his career the same as Beav chose his... theres calculated risks, benefits, and pride in both.

I agree Beav was a bit harsh.. and thats why i stated the "ouch". But get off the soap box.

I didn't take it as an insult. I don't eat twinkies, or donuts, there are no bowling alleys in my district, and the guy who picked it up is a former Marine intelligence type who is fluent in 3 languages. He works a different platoon then I do. I was the third person to get to drive it. He took it back twice for repairs. While he is quite massive and scary, I don't think he broke the power door locks and the door handle through mere strength or abuse. It now has 457 miles and so far so good.
