Trust me, I've tried many variations and this is the only method that works for my SVX once it's in that condition. If you let go of the gas as soon as it catches, the RPMs won't rise above 2k, pretty much the same as if it started normally. In my case, I'm leaning toward some leaky injectors being the cause, since it only happens after the engine has stopped for a good while and the symptoms point toward a flooded engine.

man you are shortening your engine's life.... this will damage your pistons and ebgine block more than if you were running on high RPM...

It's got 13+ years and 220K+ miles on it already, I'm not exactly worried about its life being shortened any more. It doesn't happen all the time but trust me, when it does, my method is better than sitting in the parking lot for 3 hours waiting for it to clear itself or a tow.

ok, but why killing the engine, you are saying it has 220 m+ over it, which one you prefer? killing the engine or fixing your car the proper way? i mean it can't handle anymore pressure as it used to be...

Look, I'm just suggesting to the guy how he might be able to get that SVX started so he can at least test drive it. I'm not saying floor the gas pedal before starting your car every morning, but if that's what it takes for a particular morning, then that's what it takes. It's probably likely that I did more damage overall by cranking the cold engine 30+ times on the first few occasions it started having this problem then each successive time since. These little engines are tougher than you think, and don't forget, the cylinders sit sideways so all the oil does not necessarily drain out of them as readily as a traditional I or V engine.

I am having starting issues also, for mine it seems to be the EGR, you should really check the codes
