Man, do I feel low...

This weekend is another autocross in Rantoul. My friend asked me if I wanted to drive his Eclipse again, since the both of us learned a lot the last time we both drove his car. My friend told me that he had some brake stuff he wanted to do on his car. I've been working late every night so I said, 'how about Friday night?' I felt pretty obligated to help him since this would be the second event I had driven his car and not done anything in return.

He had pads all around and a set of stainless brake lines. Piece of cake, right? The pads went in very quickly, of course. An hour total and they were all replaced. The lines weren't a big deal either. Some stubborn clips, but no real problems. Then came time to bleed the brakes.

The first bleeder valve was really tight and I snapped it right off. Poop. The rest came out, but we were never able to properly bleed the front left. I bled it through the banjo fitting, but that's no way to bleed a brake - it's before the piston. We never got great pressure in the system, and I'm certain that's where the air is.

So in the morning, instead of autocrossing, we're going to buy some more brake fluid and either a new caliper or at least a new bleeder valve and see if we can't get it right this time.

Well, we got the brakes fixed. It's too bad my friend can't make it out tomorrow, but I'll try to be there...

I didn't go, actually. Too much to do around the house and stuff.

I think I'm going to try turning my Justy into an autocrosser. I have 3 of them now but only 1 is roadworthy (93 4wd).

The 4WD wouldn't do you any good on an autocross course. As a matter of fact, it'd only be to your disadvantage due to the extra weight it adds.

I've autocrossed my Justy now for a full season and I wouldn't advise it to anybody who wanted to win. It's been a great deal of fun, but the poor thing is just totally outclassed by so many other cars in its class. H-Stock is seeing a great deal of interest lately with all kinds of new sporty economy cars coming to market and the Justy simply can't hack it.

Of course there's always the possibility that I suck. I don't think I do, but it's possible. Still, compare it to non-turbo Eclipses and new Minis. Really, it's just not even close.

Fun, but not close.

Now, if you wanted to race it in FSP or something, that'd be a hell of a lot of fun. Turbo it or something for a mod class. Yeah...
