How long did you have to search before getting your first SVX?

Well.. It seems that there are none for sale within about 600 miles of me that are even in semi-decent condition... Looks like Wisconsin's just a bad place to find an SVX.

So, I'm going to have to settle for something else in the meantime whilst I continue my search.

How long did you look before finding your first?

I may be selling mine towards the end of the year. I'm in the Chicago area. Let me know if you are interested. I could let you know when I am ready to sell.

Looked for about 3 years. Got real serious the last 6 months.

Only wanted a Red 97 LS1 - We have no SVXen around my neck of the woods at all. The only other one I ever saw in person was on Whidbey Island WA (Black 97 LSi).

I bought one from Seattle and had it shipped by truck to Memphis.

Good luck on your search!

Took me a good 3-4 months of hard searching as I was looking for a '96-'97 L model due to the lighter weight. Searched high and low on Autotrader, cars.com, autobytel, etc. Only found two for sale during the entire time I searched - one in Florida (1K+ miles away) and one just 140 miles from my home (which I now own).

If you really want an SVX, I'm sure you could find a good one before the snow starts falling...

I was an XT6 buff at the time I found out about the SVX.
I ran across it accidentally on the internet looking for XT6 stuff in college (Phoenix), and a couple months later on Xmas break whilst perusing the local Subaru dealer (Alaska), I uncovered my new dream car from beneath it's snowy tomb, and the rest is history.

Oh yeah I again forgot my wallet and because of this my friend got to drive it home.

Well... anyone who has ever lived in florida will back me up...
but subaru's are very Sparse here in Florida, Specialy the older
ones, darn near impossable to find a First Gen Legacy....

Anyway... First time I wanted to get one, was when I was Living
in PA... Found one no problem, but money came up short

in Apr 2004... I move back here to my hometown of Jax, Fl.....
I had the money, and Needed a car, so for the heck of it...
I hit autotrader... looking for any 1990 - 1996 Subaru's...
First one that caught my eye was actualy a 1992 Legacy Turbo...
Silver too!!!!! But when I called it was already sold
(they got over 50 calls the first day, from all over the US about that car!!!)

So the next day, I look again..... and OMG!!!! there it was....
a 92 Ebony! only $1500... It needed things fixed... as a car that old i expected that anyway (just never knew the parts were so $$$$$!)

So I jumped on it without even 2nd guessing it.... I've wanted an SVX sence i first saw one with my own eyes, Blowing by me in a race.... i didnt even know it was a subaru at first, untill i saw the back! LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!

So far i have also added over $2200 in parts to my car... but it seems thats common anyway... But when you have a love for a car like the SVX, your willing to keep her running strong!

Knoxville, TN market = 0

I searched for 3 months and then I got lucky.

Knoxville, Tn, has around 600,000 metro inhabitants. It's not a bustling major metropolitan city, but it's not a small town either. I was amazed that I found NO SVX's, for sale or on the road. The only one I ever saw was 40 miles west in a town called Harriman; a pristine 96 LSi with around 36,000 miles owned by the son of a Subaru dealer (it wasn't for sale).

My search led me to a more than a few in the Atlanta area, but they were mostly early models with over 100K miles and original transmissions. I made the decision then to focus on the cars for sale from members of this forum.

I watched the FS posts every day and jumped on one for sale in Rockford, IL. To get it, I ended up flying to Chicago and taking a bus to Rockford to buy it, over 650 miles away. I was fortunate to find one that was well maintained with all of the mods I liked already installed and with a 5-speed conversion (which I would have ended up pursuing anyway).

Because of their scarcity in this area, anyone I know that is looking for an SVX I steer to these boards. It's better than taking a chance on unscrupulous dealers and eBay specials, although you can get a great deal there too if you know what to look for.

I looked 3 to 4 months before I found the one I wanted. I have also found that if you want one, and a good one, you must TRAVEL! I have only found one locally, and have had to go far and wide to find the ones I want. I live in Washington State and have bought SVXes in the following cities and states:

Oklahoma City, OK
Chicago, IL
Columbus, OH
Kansas City, MO
Burbank, CA
Lynwood, WA
San Fransisco, CA

Aye.. We're all quite familiar with your particular brand of SVX obsession, Earl...

Actually.. I've been considering that quite extensively...

However, the added cost of the flight out, the return trip in the car (In all cases, buying a one-way ticket and driving the SVX back, including travel expenses/gas/etc... has been 1/3rd to 1/4 the price of having it transported by open trailer... Even more if by closed...) and taking into consideration finding someone locally I can trust to have a vehicle checked out throughly before even making preparations to purchase all factor into the final cost...

...and with limited funds... It would have to be an exceptional deal to even consider it at this point in time...

Sorry to hear that about WI. That's where I got mine, in Lake Geneva. (Granted I overpaid 'cause I had to replace the tranny a week after I bought it) but she's been perfect ever since.

Been lusting after them since '92 when I first caught sight of one, and settled for my old XT6 when I couldn't afford the SVX.

But In 2002 when I actually went looking to replace my totaled car, found this SVX within a couple of days.
