MotorTrend Article - '05 Evolution MR vs '05 Subaru STI!!!

I've been following the development of the Evo MR over the last few months. Came across this Oct '04 MotorTrend article on the evolutionm.net forum site: MotorTrend Article

For those members that didn't know, I came close to purchasing an '03 Apex Silver Evo earlier this year, but then changed jobs, sold my Lightning and got a '96 SVX L instead.

I really like the '04 Volvo S60R, but after seeing this article, the Evoultion MR may be worth a closer look when I buy my next car!

The Evo IX is coming out '06, so it looks like this rivalry will never die... Which is just the way auto enthusiats want it!

P.S. I just love the dark shadow grey color on any car. More and more lately, I've been thinking that at age 26, I'm too young for a Volvo. Need something more edgy and flamboyant...

Mitsubishi Motors brought an '05 Evolution MR out to a SoCal Evo club meet the other day which completely stole the show. It's in my favorite color too...

I always liked Evo's from playing GT and GT2, but I'd take a STi. I had that opinion before I bought my first Subaru. I loved the 22B and would do just about anything to own one.

That is SO SWEET!!! It'd be a toss up on the color. Love black and silver, but the WR Blue has such an amazing pull on me. I feel like I'm Petter flying through the German woods!!!

as much as i love the look of black cars (my last three were), i will get a Platinum Silver STi. the wifey's WRX is PS, and that damn thing looks clean from 2 feet away after driving through a sh*t storm. i am done washing, glazing, and waxing black cars, only to have it look like a turd an hour later.

the Platinum Silver is pretty cool looking, regardless.

Having read several STI vs EVO reviews over the last year or so, it looks as if Subaru is only losing ground (cost and performance wise). The latest review was a brake comparison and the STI's brakes started fading much earlier. This all said, I'd love to see the next version of the STI jump past the EVO in handling and braking...

Alan you know my 928 S4 will HAVE to be black! I'd go with WR blue or Silver on an STi. My wife's Forester is silver. She loves it. It always looks clean. My Black with silver Pathfinder however, does not.

from what i've read, just installing the STi Pink springs makes it the car it should have been - no loss in ride quality, but way better handling.

i won't be ready to buy one until probably the MY 07 or 08's are out, so we'll see what they are like. i'll be using it as a daily driver, so i'm not too worried about brake fade after repeated hard stops. i just want stopping power. also, the EVO apparently has a VERY harsh ride - something that wouldn't be too pleasant day-to-day.
