Thumbs up Off to Ohio in about 12 hours....

Alright guys, I'm flying to Ohio (columbus) tomorrow morning at about 0600... Leaving for the airport at about 3 in the morning. Pretty excited

Going yo pick up my new(well kinda) car... It's a 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit diesel. Kinda like the one that I used to have I'll post pics that the owner sent me in a few minutes

Just wanted to let everyone know where I am. I'll be driving back to Beaufort tomorrow afternoon though. Sorry I can't stop in and have a beer with anyone

Bio-diesel

Have you (or are you) condsidering converting it to Bio-diesel? I have a cousin in CA that swears by his and he runs his on used vegetable oil. Following it, all you smell is french fries. The kits are pretty cheap and supposedly reliable. The largest difference is that in colder climates, the veggie oil tends to congeal and you have to heat it to thin it out before you can drive. If you know someone in the food industy, you can probably arrange to get free 'fuel' by picking up the waster fry oil. Good luck driving it back!

yea I was thinking about doing that.... Haven't really gotten into it too much yet though... I may do it later on this year. First though, I want to make it back to SC from Ohio. After that I will slowly start to restore what is left that needs restoring in the car.

It only has 130,000 miles!!! The one that I had when I was 17 had 278,000 miles. I also read about one in Canada that had over 700,000 miles with no major problems before the owner decided to get rid of the car...

These little things are AMAZING!! If you can find one, GET IT!!! they run forever and are so EASY to work on!!

Ok, you're going to Ohio, and have no time to visit, If you can, Chris, have some 5-7 way Chile. It's all part of the American experiance !

besides, you'l be in the car alone for 6 hours, this gives you something to do

Sweet! I learned to drive on in an 82. My grandfather bought it new and gave it to my dad in 86. I used to drive it around the field behind our house. It was the car that gave me a likeing towards the VW. Fortunatly I found a BRAT first and became a Subyfreak. The new VW's SUCK!

The Rabbit finnaly died after my mom filled it with gas and my dad drove it ot work with no anti freeze in it. It was still running when they pulled it apart to find that the head had a crack in every cylinder.

Have fun with tah beast. And what is going on with you SVX anyway?

Thanks everyone... I got back early this morning. About 3am to be exact. After no sleep for nearly 37 hours, I was to the point of collapse. Called my boss this morning and told her that I just got back. She told me to take the morning off and sleep. Went into work and then to school after that. Just got out of school about 40 minutes ago.....

The Volkswagen....

Overall I am pleased with the car. The engine appears to be in OUTSTANDING condition. There is a valvecover oil leak The tranny is a 4 speed. It is difficult to get into 1st gear everynow and then. Kinda reminds me of the WRX tranny ... Shifts very sloppy. My other Rabbit was the same way though. The paint needs wet-sanding. The tinted windows look like a 5 yearold did them But still... The front right wheelbearing has $#!t it's self.

This weekend I am probably gonna "go to town" and replace as much as I can on the car. Also I'm gonna try to do the wetsanding on it... I'll post more as it happens
