The Civic Center screams target... and My family live just off of sunset blvd, near the old chimeny, so flooding shouldnt be an issue.

Glad the family is OK.

Very sad to look at pics of places, now devastated, that I fondly remember. [I lived in apartments on University Parkway, then Corry Field Rd (near the NAS) in the mid/late 70s & got my BS in Physics from the U of West Florida].

even the remnants of hurricanes suck...I hope all is well with my SVX friends up the Eastern seaboard...our TV news shows a lot of flooding from Georgia up to New England.

edit: Now Ivan is back down to Florida, we are getting near tropical storm gusts and it's already rained about an inch today. The local weather guys say it's going to cross the state & head back out into the gulf. Given the angry spirit that Momma Nature has shown this year, I expect it will reform into a storm and head back up to give the Gulf Coast another whack (but I've got my fingers crossed that enough land gets in the way to make it fall apart).

Remains of Ivan

As the moisture of Ivan was moving over us and heading north, I noticed an odd thing on my Intellicast radar. It was a circle of basically clear air surrounded by just a trace of rain in a slightly curved shape. I showed Jean and said if I didn't know better, it looked like someone had removed the eye and let it drift south.
It was like watching a hole move....which made no sense.

THEN...the Weather Channel says the remains of Ivan did just that! Amazing. I had no idea such a thing could happen.

Now the odds are against it, but IF it were able to reform, what would it be called?

Ivan II...the Sequel?

And can you believe the number of tornados that thing spawned?

Ah.....Lee....don't look now

...but Jeanne seems to be drifting in your direction. This plot keeps changing....showing it tracking closer to Florida.

around here the standing "joke" is to evacuate to wherever the hurricane center says it's going - that way it's sure to miss you.

our local Air Force weather squadron guys think it will move even further to the west, i.e., closer to us.

State Farm is so backed up I won't get to see an adjuster for another 7 to 10 days for the damage to my house. Hopefully if Jeanne does come in, it does it before State Farm gets here - that way at least I avoid two deductables. I have the minimum deductable they will sell now and it's $3K - after Charley/Francis/Ivan I'm willing to bet minimum deductables go from 2% to 5% of the home's value.

Maybe you shouldn't have said that Lee.

Sorry to see the damage to your place James. Hope you get that roof fixed before the next one rolls through. Like 2PM Sunday?

My wife has assumed this illogical attitude and claims she is not leaving this time no matter what - reminds me of the Islammic fatalism I found in Pakistand and Afganistan during the late 80s. So, being the dutiful protector, I will stay where she stays - I've made arrangements for my 16 yr-old since parental instability is no excuse for parental responsibility abdication. Who knows, I may be knocking on your door late at night.
