one Sonar.

My favourite is from the same stable, "Slip slidin' away". Great one when hangin' the tail round wet slippy corners.

here's a good driving song, 'Metal Thrashing Mad' by Anthrax:

"Racing down the road
In a street machine of steel
Gears are jammed in full
I'm the madman at the wheel

Got my foot pinned to the floor
You can feel the engine roar
I got thunder in my hands
I'm metal thrashing mad, yeah
Metal thrashing mad, yeah

Driving like a maniac
Can't go any faster
Burning up the road
Headed for disaster

Got my foot pinned to the floor
You can feel the engine roar
Got thunder in my hands
I'm metal thrashing mad"

pretty much describes me in the car. actually, more like my wife - she's been getting full of rage while driving lately.

By The Way Sonar:

Welcome!!!

We are remiss in not welcoming you before. I don't believe we have had posts from anyone in Sweden before, nice to have you aboard.

Also, commiserations to all Swedes on the murder of Anna Lindh last week, a nasty business, RIP.

That was a good article you dug up on the SVX, I have added it to my Favourites.

There is a European board which we use, also a Down Under board for the antipodean brethren [and sistern] , but feel free to use any board you like.

Good to hear from you. What SVX have you got?

Joe

Hi Joe, Sonar and others,

I must be the odd man out here for sure. Although I am very much musically inclined and play stride and other piano, I seldom listen to music when driving.

Driving has been my sport and hobby and I make sure that the rate of progress is always at a level to maintain my full interest and satisfaction. You might say that the right foot is my volume control ! Perhaps I also should confirm that I have never had an accident outside of a motor racing.

Cheers all, Trevor,

Thanx everybody

I have only had my SVX for some 3 weeks now, and it's a ebony black -92 with all options but the rear wing.
Mileage is just over 120000 km (77000 miles?) and is in perfect mint condition (just 1 owner before me, a lady).
When I first lookes at the car I thought is was brand new!
Runs like a dream
By the way, this is my 8:th subaru.

A lady owner hey? And she can't have abused the clutch!!

Just joking ladies, I know the figures point to the girls being safer drivers.

120k is good for the year. Mine is original 91 model ex Japan, and is currently approaching 160k [Kms]. It is still very taut and tightly bolted together. The tranny has given me trouble. Has your auto box been rebuilt so far?

If you read all the posts, you will see lots to scare you about the costs of repair. Don't worry too much. Get to know your car. Don't worry about things that may not need fixing, until it happens. Many owners get to 200000 miles without major maintenance.

There are a few things to be aware of, and watch for.

Rear wheel bearings go, causing a noise/growling while driving.

Transmission can slip, noticed usually by a revving up while changing to second.

Driver's door window switches break, expensive to get a replacement. Use them gently.

Keep a regular check on the 4-wheel laser alignment. If it's wrong, the car will handle funny, and the tyres will wear unevenly. I check mine twice a year, as pot-holes knock it out of alighment. [We invented them here. Swimming pools for leprechauns. ]

Front rotors [disks] get warped from plus 100mph heavy braking. Noticable as judder under braking, possible shake at the steering wheel.

I could go on and give you other typical problems, but to be honest, your car sounds a good one and you may have none of these. I only put these in just in case you would care to do some preventive maintenance and avoid pitfalls. Enjoy the car, and if any problem surfaces, post a query on the European forum, or the Technical Q&A, and someone will point you in the right direction.

Joe

PS Being a long time suby fan, you may be surprised to find that you can get parts for the SVX from the US or Japan including shipping cheaper than your main dealer. Watch out for that.
