I was actually looking for a leggo sedan... Problem is, I have had them. I am totally unamused by crummy they are for the oversized price tag... Honestly, my M5 cost me less than any decent suby will cost

Hell, a 330Xi can be had for around $10k... why spend $3k less for something that will cost you $3k more in repairs to make it a decent car?

Tom hasn't seen the rest of the shots yet, so I'll wait until he sees them before posting more.

Excellent choice Tom. It's stunning.
The E39 M5 is easily the best of the M5 family. Sure the newer E60 has two more cylinders but it's less of a car.

You also hit on a good point, ///M parts are really *aftermarket* performance parts but from the factory. Even then it's a myth that BMW parts are expensive. Two piece (aluminum hat) factory rotors for my M3 are $160 each. Compare that to OE STI rotors.
Better yet, I paid only $110 for front pads (from the E46 M3 performance package).

Tom it's also worth the $40 to join the BMWCCA, you get a 15% discount on parts and I think labor too.

Enjoy it! You've just ruined yourself for anything less.

Yeah, I did ruin it... I am selling my pearly DD and will be picking up a 3 series Xi for winter use before the snow falls

Re: My break-up with Subaru

Very nice tom. Before you run out and hop on the 330 train just yet, look for the zhp package. Available in both 2 and 4 door for pretty reasonable prices, I think you'd like the appearance a bit more. 1 style wheels, upped interior, better tuned engine, and a few others.

Hey Tom,
BMW good choice probably the my favorite car I ever owned to drive. I had the 2001 330xi black on black. Upsides are blast to drive and awesome handling stock and with some aftermarket improvements to be had. The AWD was just ok, the rear wheel bias didn't give the same confidence as say an Audi or Subaru. However, it still gets you around when others are stuck. Down sides: plastic plastic plastic... the engine has so many plastic parts and they are all pretty pricey, second obviously pricey parts and maintenance (if you don't do it all yourself). Mine had a stalling issue that the dealer could not figure out or replicate. Just would die when pulling into a gas station etc. Never really got it figured out no codes either. I have a air bag code reader somewhere if you are interested.(probably just ship it to you for option of future favor). last real down side was basically the bias to rear wheels. Other than that I loved it. I plan to go back to the BMW after the SVX is done I want the SVX of the BMW line (8 series). Anyway good luck on your choices and PM me if interested in the air bag SRS code reader.

Re: My break-up with Subaru

Congrats on the BMW. M5's are delicious. I had a friend of mine just sold his that he owned for a little while. He took it on the AKA rally last year with 2 other e39's. I heard reports that the three of them may or may not have been doing extended stints of 170+ mph on the rally. They are a completely impressive vehicle. Oh, also as far as mods, he just deleted the rear mufflers and got one of those tuning chips that actually works for it and was set. The straight piped exhaust sounded amazing.
