Cleaning MAF/TPS
I am trying to clean my MAF and TPS, but I have run into 2 problems. First, how do I get the MAF off of the airbox? It seems to me like its all one piece, but I have seen pictures of them where the MAF is sitting alone by itself after someone has taken it off. Secondly, I am wondering about the scribe marks that I have to make on the TPS to get it back into the right position after I have cleaned it. Why would I have to scribe a mark at all? The TPS has 2 screws that screw into pre-threaded holes. Wouldnt that mean that all I had to do was line it up with the holes just like it was before, and then put the screws in?

it is removable from the box. you have to unscrew 4 bolts which are clearly seen on the upper part of the box where it meets the MAF.

After you remove the MAF, it's still in a cylindrical "can." That's as far apart as you can get it. You can stick a Qtip in to very gently clean it.
Yes, the TPS has two screws, but the screw holes in the TPS are actually slightly slotted. This allows you to slightly rotate the TPS to set it correctly. After you set it (position it) properly, you tighten the screws to lock it in place. If you take it off to clean it, you'll probably want to use a voltmeter to set it correctly rather than rely on your scribe marks. Good luck

I wonder if it's possible to "misalign" the MAF so that it doesn't max out as easily?

I'm sure it would make a difference. It's just like hiding behind a wall when it's windy. It works off of temperature. If there's less moving air over the wire then it will read less.
