Subaru-Nissan part sharing?
I replaced the central lock switch on my SVX and the box it came in said Genuine Subaru Part. The switch itself has Nissan molded into the side. Also, I was riding in a frineds Maxima today and I noticed that the turn signal stalks were nearly identical. What is the story here? Thanks.

What it boils down to is nobody makes everything. Ford doesn't, GM doesn't, etc. They all outsource parts to build their cars. If you want your parts to be proprietary and engineered for your car alone, you pay extra. Smaller companies don't enjoy that luxury very often, so you'll find parts spanning several OEMs. You used to find Chrysler parts in AMCs and just about anything laying in the corner under a bench was fair game on IH Scouts. Toyota automatic transmissions in Jeep Cherokees, transfer cases in almost all trucks fit into most any other truck with the same model t-case, etc., etc., etc.....

IF you want to look, a couple of hoses are made by Mitsubishi as well. The trunk lock is made by nissan. The 4EAT is also made for the Pathfinder.

Lwing,
Be careful. The 4EAT in our SVX started life as the Nissan Pathfinder auto tranny. Fuji Heavy Indus. (Subaru) than modified that tranny for the SVX. FHI is a small fish. They have to purchase pieces that have already been engineered and designed by other car manufacturers.

Yup, the 4EAT is used in the Pathfinder and the Mazda MPV, along with a bunch of FWD cars. (Ford, Nissan and Mazda)

I did look at some of the hoses and even one of my belts a week or two ago and saw the mitsubishi symbol, the funny part is they all read very clearly MITSBOSHI with an O, I thought it was wierd, but as long as they work its fine by me.

I don't know if it's still true but in the '70's Mitsubishi was the world's largest manufacturer. Now realize that's a pretty wide-open statement, but I'm sure it was determined by revenue generated by pure manufacturing.

Front calipers are from a Pathfinder as well.
And I think the rear diff is from a 300ZX. VK |

Rear diff is from a 300Z, not a 300ZX. The 4EAT was used in the older Maxima, Q45, 300Z, Pathfinder, Mazda 626...
Our ECU and basic electrical system is from the Nissan parts bin. Our airfilter is the same one used in the 240SX. Back before GM bought a chunk-o-Subaru, Nissan owned a large pecentage of the company. Subaru was given free access to the Nissan parts bin. (The Q45 also had transmission overheating problems-- never use your Q45 for towing) |

Someone once told me the MPV and RX7 share the same tranny... Anyone for a twin rotor 320 hp awd svx?

actually, RX7's only have 255hp - not much more than the SVX. what makes them fast is that they are only 2800lbs. of course it would be alot easier to modify the RX7 engine for more power. imagine all the room to work in the engine compartment with that little rotary in there!

It's amazing what you squeeze a rotary into, I've done a couple TR6s, a Formula Ford and a Fiat Spider. I know of some people in the L.A. area that have installed 4 rotor (coupling kit), massaged rotaries into Caterham Sevens. Nuttin' like a 600+ hp in an 1100 pound car on the street.
