It has been stated ----- "Every time I start the car the voltage starts at a low 12V then it shoots up above 14V"

There are no faults reported which logically could involve "the charging circuit".

I had the car checked out at an alternator shop. They did not like the alternator wire upgrade and how it was sharing the alternator post with the other wire. They recommended on removing it and I did. All else checked out OK. I drove over an hour from their shop and no lights so far. Could this have caused the problem? Trevor?

I have caused some controversy by pointing out negative respects in regard to the so called "up grade". Your report of "sharing the alternator post with other wire" I gather means only the original wiring.

It is difficult to understand why this could have caused the indicator light problem you have advised. Was the shop the original supplier of the alternator? If so I would suspect that they repaired it, without letting on that it had been faulty when sold to you.

Yes I was referring to the original wire. They said the alternator post has small tabs around it, just small enough for the original wire end hook up. My wire upgrade ends are wider and don't sit on the post correctly and the original wire end sits on top of that one. That is why they did not like the hook up with another wire. Maybe you are right, they did something to the alternator without letting me know. It's possible. So far the car is running OK. I will end this discussion because it's going no where fast, but thanks to all, especially Trevor.
