Myth or fact? turbo svx done in japan?

the reason why im asking this i got told this story from the old owner of my svx. he told me about an japanease company that brought up an limited number of svxs in japan and turnned turned them in to turbo ones and fitted manuals to them?
i think it was an story. so is this fact or ficton?

I'd say unlikely, but keep in mind, we've done it. It's possible that some sort of tuner company out there may have purchased a handful of SVX's and done virtually the same thing that we've done, perhaps even after we did, using the theory provided here. Who knows though, i'd still say it's unlikely.

Fiction. That said, the Japanese SVX owners (as well as the owners around the world; just look around here!!) are pretty crafty and I'm sure that more than one is pushing more than came off the factory floor.

funnly enought im tryin 2 have an look at an turbo svx when it gets up brought up here. its got some other badging on it. thats why i thought about asking this question

Its most likely an aftermarket turbo.

Sounds like it IS possible, sorta like Saleen & his 'Stangs. I dunno how closely linked to any Japaneese SVX clubs we are, but they'd know for sure. Anyone outside the 'States know who Steeda is? Who's to say we know EVERY Subaru tuner in the world?

Hey there.

I've looked through lots of SVX sites, including the SVX All Japan Meeting (huge Japanese SVX gathering; it's like Reading only Japanese). Honestly, we know all of the "big" SVX tuner companies. If there are smaller no-name companies doing things with SVXs, then they haven't surfaced.

From what I've seen, the two major players in Japan are K-STAFF and Flatt Racing. And really they are just the ones making aftermarket parts for the SVX; as far as I can tell they haven't taken a fleet and converted them to turbo.

It is most likely fiction.

Paddles is in touch with the Japanese clubs. If these cars were out there, the clubs would know, club members would have them.

The "Japanese Turbo" myth goes back a long way. If you look at pages 20 and 21 of the Road and Track guide to the SVX, there are pictures of the almost complete clay model. On page 21, this model carries the logo AWD Turbo on the rear plastic section below the rear passenger window.

At that time ['89, '90??] Subaru was developing performance turbos, the Legacy Turbo was starting to advance in rallying. So maybe the design team people were expressing a wish, to give their baby turbo power as a top-of-the-range car, who can tell??

In any event it has persisted since. But it is a myth.
