so i got my ebay 28k svx today...and a wheel question

I must say that it is in excellent shape in and out. It does have about 7 dent x type dings to remove and a scrape on the rear bumper from a garage door opener. However, the interior is immaculate as is the paint.

I am upset with the seller for not disclosing that the brakes squeal...indicating needing replacement. Also there is a burning smell coming from the right side engine or driver side wheel well...might be power steering pump drip (no fluid anywhere)?
... any ideas would be appreciated. Considering what I paid, i should not have to do these things right away and certainly should have been tolda bout them (any advice on the smell would be appreciated. does not smell like oil. It shifts perfectly.

ON the question of wheels...will any legacy wheels fit this car? Here are some i found on ebay and i am curious (as they are inexpensive). I really sdo not want to go bigger than the stock size (16).

thanks and i will post pics as soon as I get a chance.

Conrats on the new ride, I hope you have some good weather to enjoy it. The brakes might not be worn out, they could just be cheap pads. All brakes make noise, how much noise is realated to the quality of the pads, better pads make less noise. When you get a chance, just put good quality brake pads on, with shims, of they are available, and your noise should go away. I'm not sure about the Legacy wheels, it will be interesting to find out if they are interchangable.

The wheels you have there won't fit an SVX. The bolt pattern for a Forester is 5X100, the SVX takes wheels with a 5X114.3 pattern. I forget the offset required, I'm sure someone will chime in soon with that.

Congrats on the almost new car.

Congratulations on your SVX. Whatever maintenance you do, do it right and the car will be much better off because of it. The engines are quite hot and sometimes smell like they have something burnt under the hood. That may not be the case. Yes, the PS may have a little leak and would drip on the exhaust which would cause a smell as well. Look around the PS tank and if there is some fluid, you can replace the O-Ring which will get rid of the leak. Good luck and happy driving.

I used a guy on Jericho Tpk near 110 to fix a few door dings and to repaint my bumpers and stuff.

The offset you need is about 48 or 50.

I read stock offset as 50... might be on cars101?

Yeh, it killed me to part with my 2.5RS 16x7 wheels, just cos they were 5x100.
