California SVX?
I just recently found out the SVX I bought last week was originally sold in CA. Are there any horsepower robbing emissions things on there I might be able to eliminate?

I've never come across anything that Subaru did differently for SVX's destined for California. As far as I can tell, they all met CA emissions.

thats what i thought too, but in the back of the drivers manual they had a section for service specifically on CA spec SVX's. Why would the service for them be different if the car wasn't? You know what I mean?

I think that is for service in case it does not meet the emission test. I have never heard that there was anything different for the ones sold in Cali than other states.

I think California has laws regarding the service intervals of certain parts (like timing belts). That's probably the reason for the CA service chart.

I bought a car in New Mexico and had no problems registering it in California. If there was something that needed to be added, I'm sure the DMV would have asked me to do it. Also, I have easily passed all smog checks.
The different mainenance schedule in Cali is because the law in this state says that timing belts must last 100k miles. If you look at the schedule, the timimg belt does not get changed until 100k instead of 60k. Same belt is used in all states as far as I know, so either 60k is too early or 100k is too late. I change mine at 60k just to be safe. The rest of the schedule should be the same. -Matt |

The belt is very tough. I changed mine when it had more than 100k on it, and I plan on waiting for at least another 100k before I do it again. The belt is much thicker than the Legacy belt for the same vintage, and we hardly ever see those break. Dave |
