Question Rear bearing replacement. Alternatives??

Trevor,

Or anyone who may know. I need to replace one, maybe both rear bearings to pass the government NCT car test. I have the part numbers a la Subaru, which I got from Doug[Mohrds] on a post, and confirmed on the SubaruParts site.

Trevor was trying to find out last March if the bearing was generic, and possibly be sourced direct from a manufacturer.

Any luck with this search Trevor? Or are we stuck with the standard sub-standard Subaru item??

Joe

Joe,
This is an earlier thread on the subject. I think we're all stuck with the same bearing although mine have lasted 40K miles since finally done properly. Boone

Hi Joe.

Nice to have you down this way as things have tended to be a bit slow. Also welcome to you Boone.

Thanks to Boone, Joe you will now have the numbers you want.

In actual fact I did not proceed with replacing my wheel bearings as I decided that what I was concerned about could be tyre noise and this has proven to be correct. The never ending posts on thr subject must have put me on edge. My car remains as built except for normal wear and tear items.

Kind regards, Trevor.

White noise

Thanks Boone, Trevor,

Mine is NOT tyre noise. If it was, I would have no choice but go to the local tractor shop and complain!

Will see what these babies cost locally, or even if available. Let you know how I get on.

Joe

PS Trevor, you travelling to London in November?? Meet ya for a pint if you are

Antipodian bearing ??

Hi Joe,

Have just sourced a subaru bearing here in UK, complete with both grease seals and retaining clip for £80 inc Vat from local Sub agent.

I'd be pleasently surprised if there is generic bearing, it's quite a piece of work, double bearing built into an overall sleave. Not sure problem is with quality of item, can believe ineffective dirt seals allow contamination into the bearing. Could be bearing overhang doesn't help. Think about how much inset there is on the wheels ?? That's a hell of a lot of preload on the bearing.

Speak to you soon.

Phil.

Hi there guys,

I noticed your bearing discussion. I thought I might add that there is an online car parts site that implies there are aftermarket bearings available for the SVX, and gives the manufacturers names. Thought this might be of interest for further investigation.
It is www.carparts.com

In the replacement parts category they mention brands like BCA/National and Beck/Arnley and gives prices.

For those looking. Leave a post if this is of help.

Regards,

Blake
