Re: Blurring licenses in photos?

Probably no harm in doing it, but in the grand scheme of things just a little silly - in light of the fact that we all drive around in public every day with our license plates for all to see.

Think of the audience differences here...

The few hundred people you may pass on the way to work, versus the billions of people on the internet.

Re: Blurring licenses in photos?

It would make more sense for something like a car for sale on the local craigslist where the people viewing it are actually nearby.

Personally, 2 reasons....
1- I honestly drive like a royal A$$ most of the time.... the last thing I need is some short-tempered road-raged redneck that I raced or cut off smashing my headlight or me when they pose as a potential buyer after recognizing my car and one way or another linked it to my location (and for that matter both of my current vehicles are rather unique within my town).

2- who doesn't? with as common as it is, and as easy as it is, I figure there must be some good reason so why the heck not?

Blurring or blanking a plate on the vast majority of cars is not likely a useful security measure.
It is true that the svx is not a $150k car. However, blurring the plate may be wise for a certain individual (the names I shall not mention but will refer to him as muleface) because if I was bored enough to use their tag information to locate said 'muleface'....I would surely find pleasure in lighting a paperbag full of mulepoop on their doorstep and photograph. That photo alone would be worth much more than $150k...it would be priceless.

Well in the case of a female...I would find it wise to blur license plates. There are a lot of freaks out there.

Bahahahahahahahahahaha....

On topic: I've also heard it's an insurance thing. (Disclaimer: Just stuff I've heard, not real info) It's possible for your insurance company to find pictures of your car doing not normal things, and then either nail you to a wall with premiums, or cancel outright. Covering up your plates keeps you stealth on their radars.

Re: Blurring licenses in photos?

Plate "Fuzzing" has a lot to do with Youtube as well. Youtube has tons of videos of people doing things they shouldn't do, which is easily traceable to a person if you catch pictures of their plates. Even unrelated photos get traced back.

In North Carolina the Highway Patrol has a group that does nothing but search out people on the internet, and use it against them in court.

*disclaimer* That mostly relates to motorcycles but the same is true of cars to a lesser degree.
