If they can do it, why can't we?

Two Saturdays ago, I was down at my home-away-from-home, the Petersen Automotive Museum. The occasion was a meet and talk honoring the 100th anniversary of the Model T. About 25 cars showed up, most driven to the Museum, and a local collector who specializes in Ts gave a talk, and several owners gave rides. Fun morning.
The King Midget club also scheduled an event, and they showed up with 10 cars, most driven to the Museum, One of them brought a Fiat 500 station wagon, also a neat rarity. He drove it in.
My thing is, if these guys (and girls) can do it, why can't we? Museum management is all for it, we could probably get some extra percs, but I can't seem to generate any interest. The director said he would love to see a half-dozen or more SVXi parked where the Ts were, all we have to do is pick a date.
C'mon people, let's DO it!
Paul

That's a great idea Paul. I hope you pursue it and make it happen!

There is something very honest about T's. There was mechanical simplicity backed up by over-engineering in the make-up of these cars.

With the possible exception of the rear bearings and the over-heating transmission, the SVX is also a car that was over-engineered. A labor of love from the Subaru design team.

A squad of SVX's would look really good in that slot. C'mon guys, make it happen!

Paul, there are enough of you out on the West Coast to make this happen. The Petersen Museum is one of the best I've ever visited. Make us proud man.

Thats only a 14hr drive for me
And I've wanted to see the Petersen Museum for a long time.
If the date is right, I might go.

Re: If they can do it, why can't we?

OK, West Coasters, let's give it another try. Joe, Gene, Juggalo, Turbone, thanks for your encouragement. Yes, there are a number of members out here, and I would love to have a meet at the museum. As I said before, the powers that be at the museum are enthusiastic, and we could probably get some extra tours or whatever. To make a real weekend out of it, I can set up some tours to a couple of really great car collections in the area as well. (and none of them has an SVX!)
So, to avoid the brush fire and heat seasons, I think late October would work. Send me messages if you have any ideas.
Paul

Re: If they can do it, why can't we?

This is very exciting sounding. I have yet to meet with anyone that's into svx's yet. All of the ones in my area are driven by those who came upon the car by chance and its just a Subaru to them. I know my father would love to go to a car museum like that. It sounds fun, and more reason yet to get on my transmission.

You could count me in if the timing's right. I've been in the city for years and haven't been to the museum. I'm sure there's some nice rides in there, but who would ever notice them with all those SVX's outside. Sound's fun.

Re: If they can do it, why can't we?

I tried to have dinner at the Antique Automobile Assoc. a few Readings back. Its a relatively new museum with 200 or so cars in real actual period settings (not just in a big warehouse with checkerboard flooring). There wasn't a whole lot of intrest from most who come to Reading for a couple of reasons.

1. Beer/wine in a parking lot is cheaper.
2. Beer/wine in a parking lot is cheaper.
3. Most came from at least a couple hours away and wanted Saturday to relax before having to drive home.
4. Something about beer. I wish I could remember!

Good luck, I'm totally with you that if we would ever want to see the SVX become a "accepted" piece of auto history rather than a failed bastard child then its by racing 'em, upkeeping 'em and parking 'em where people who come to see automotive art go.
