I have had it!! I am buying a Tiburon
Hate to leave you guys but I can't afford to keep this car running. I bought it for 7k.......have put in over 4k in repairs alone and now my head gasket is leaking (crack) and I am also leaking oil in my cam-shaft/timing belt area. Also one of my rotors is shot I think (makes loud "woooshing" sound in back of car) These repairs will be over 2k......I found a guy who could replace my seatbelt for $400 and I was excited.........that is sad!!
I just test drove a Tiburon and it is really nice, looks GREAT and has a 100k warranty.......yes WARRANTY......they will only give me 2500 for my SVX trade-in.....started at 1500 I almost walked out, but the car is all messed up and to get it back to book value I will need to drop 2k minimum and have no car for a week.........I just can't do it anymore.......If I did I know my tranny would go in a year and that would be another 2500-3k.....you SVXers know what I mean......I wish I had deeper pockets, but I just got a steady job with a 1/2 hour commute and I need reliable, yet cool transportation, the SVX just can't be there for me and I LOVE the car. FYI....the Tiburon really is nice for a really good price......I wish you all the best of luck and who knows, maybe someday I will buy a next-generation new SVX with a Warranty......imagine that.....Take care everybody, and thank you very much for all your good advice (O-ring etc.)..bye |

Good luck. Always hate to see an SVX leave.
Ever since the new Tiburon's came out I've come to like them. They almost look like a Ferrari 456 with those big indents in the side. Anyways, good luck, and if your financial situation gets better (Lotto?) make sure to get another SVX. See ya around.

Checked with Consumer Reports about the Tiburon, I have always had casual interest in that car, too. Even though its been around for several years, there is still insufficient relibility history on the record. Guess if it had been bad reports would stink.
Don't place too much on long warranty periods. I got 7 years/70K miles on a Dodge once. If the SOB doesn't run it sits at the dealer until they fix it. Poor initial reliability+no loaner policy at the dealer=UB walking and still paying for the car. Maybe for up to 10 years. The cool cars during my era at school could be fixed with a swift kick and bailing wire. Stories of SVX's falling apart (like window lift switches) amaze me. Mine has been a pillar of reliability. Owned mine since new - previous owners must have trashed yours. I'm sorry this car is so expensive to maintain, and that yours had so many problems..... |

Tibouron looks good, but the body roll is unbelieveable!
Why not pickup a 2.5RS or a WRX? -mike |

I agree - I think it's all in how you take care of them.

What's a Tiburon?
Is that a Hyundai Coupe?
If so, I must admit they look good. On first aquaintance, they looked lovely, hint of Ferrari 456. Closer up, they look too chunky, not elegant enough, and they seem to sit higher on the road and off the springs than you might expect for a sportscar. At the price I'm being picky, but as looks go, they are no 240Z. Sorry you are calling it a day, know how you feel. The SVX is relatively complicated. Best advice is buy the best you can afford, learn how to walk away from a badly minded/treated car BEFORE you fall in love with it. In the Classic car game, it sometimes surprises the low prices that Ferraris and the like make. This is always because the car concerned needs serious work to bring to show or even road standard. Same applies to the SVX. If it is going to cost 3K to put right, you need to be paying 3K below book, or look elsewhere. Best of luck with the Tiburon Joe
