Bought our Pearl/Ebony SVX brand new in 1992 - still love it. Paid about $26,000.

I bought mine a week ago today and absolutely love it. ive owned 5 xt6's prior to getting an svx (although i do still have 2 of them). what kept me away so long was the fact that they didnt come in stick. blow your left shifting knee out and what better time to buy an automatic cant believe i waited this long

same as some of you, i bought the car sight unseen, having never driven or even sat in one before. i live in CT and saw this one on ebay in MD. i emailed the seller asked if they had a buy it now, he responded with a damn good deal. so i gave him a deposit right then and there. i did drive it b4 i gave them the rest of the money, it was his mothers car, she was almost in tears seeing it go i assured her "its in good hands now" as i loaded it on my trailer to start my 6.5 hr trek home. i loved looking in the rear-view in the van and seeing her sitting all pretty on the trailer behind me
so now i have my pearly new baby with 71k babied miles. may these svx/xt's live/run forever. (just add bondo)

I've never driven one, or in fact even sat in one, but God willing, I'll be buying one late-sept.
I've been in love (spelled L-U-S-T) with them since they were introduced. Back then, I owned a pristine '86 XT GL. Being the follow-on to the XT I kept up with the spyshots et-al in the magazines. Then came the Road & Track guide...I was HOOKED!
I told myself that someday I'd own one. Looks like that someday may be soon!

Make sure you get a good one. Preferably a low miler with a fanatical owner.

If it is on eBay and looks unloved, walk away. Don't kid yourself that you can turn it into a beauty with a respray. Possibly you can, but if it was not loved and serviced, lots of other expensive jobs will be lining up, needing to be done.

Last bit of advice, try and buy a car from an older person or from a family who are fastidious about servicing. Be wary of buying cars from students. No offense meant if you are one, but we get them here all the time "How am I going to get the money for a new MAF/knock sensor/....[insert any essential piece of kit that can break or wear out..]??"

If you try to run one without proper servicing and ignoring CE stuff that need attention, it will bleed you.

Best of luck with the search. They are worth it.

Joe

Very, very, sound advice, do not ignore it.

Take your time in making a choice and don't rush into anything. Pay for quality, there will be a good one out there.
N.B. Find one that has not been messed with in ANY way shape or form.

I was lucky enough to find such a car seven years ago, and it has been an excellent trouble free daily driver. It is now, as when purchased, faultless.

I TRUST the seller implicitly, well more accurately the deal broker. I'm buying this through Huck369, from his daughter's BF. It's a hi-mi car, but I'm handy with a wrench. I don't mind working on a car from time to time either. The only minus for me is the color, Brilliant Red. That just screams, "Hi officer I'm speeding" LOL
