5 speed auto?

Anyone ever thought about trying to put one of the new 5speed autos in the SVX? I am sure it could be done.

I had this thought years ago, but was dissuaded by Harvey who reckoned the complexity made it not worth the trouble.

Darren in England is doing it before Christmas. He has promised to keep us informed of the process and the progress, so if you are willing to wait a few months, all will be revealed....

I've tossed around the idea, and I know theres alot of other people who would love something like this being done. Hopfully Darren can get something figured out, a 5AT manu-matic SVX would be loads of fun!

i think it would be worth it, provided the 2.5L turbo was attached to it.

the 5EAT is leaps and bounds better then the 4EAT - its so much smoother and "fun" compared to the auto in the Mrs. Shark's WRX.

A 2.5 turbo is still Only a Four.

Now a paddle shift 5EAT connecting a supercharged six to the road, that would be a nicer proposition!!

but it is a four that was designed to be turbocharged. i have no cylinder count snobbery - i've owned 8's, 6's and 4's - they all are fun in different ways. try running 19 lbs of boost through the SVX 3.3L - bada-BOOM!

What do the gear ratios in the 5EAT look like? Highway RPM?

Never mind, all info found:

1st: 3.540
2nd: 2.264
3rd: 1.471
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.834

Get this, final drive: 3.270 Probably the first Subaru tranny to have a taller final drive than the SVX 4EAT.

In the USDM Legacy 60 MPH = 2250 RPM, because of the short fifth gear.

Bada BOOM. Sounds good to me.

I'll try it!

It's not the cylinder number that I'm snobbish about, it's the sound. One of our cars is three cylinder, so how snobbish is that??

A six always sounds smooth, an eight burbles and rumbles depending on firing order, and a four always sounds like, ummm, ahh, well a Four.

the LGT had a nice "purr" on my test drive - very surprising. now with a foam air filter, removed silencer, and catless UP/DP, its a little more aggressive, but its still has a nice smooth sound. Subaru did a great job with it.

Well, against my own argument, both of the Legacy Twin Turbos I had came with huge aftermarket silencers from Japan, and the rumble was lovely.

One in particular, the silver one, it had a "soft" rumble, not harsh in any way, and because of the split firing order on the four, it actually sounded like a big V8 on tickover. I loved it so much I opened the window passing bridges and tunnels to hear it.

When I had it for sale, I knew the first guy to come for a test drive would buy it once he heard it, and so it proved.

Hiya,

The RSK should be on the ship in September

How about a BRM V16 cylinder twin blower????, I have been in the paddock at Oulton Park with 1 next to us all weekend! 1.5cc, 12000 rpm and over 600BHP, I thought our V12 e-type Jag sounded awsome till that thing started up and moved us all 3 feet futher away from it lol.
