McTaff will no longer be in Sydney! Who is free on the first weekend in December?

Hi people!

I have now been informed I have a limited timeframe to spend shooting the breeze with my Sydney-based SVX friends. Unfortunately I will be otherwise detained after Christmas, and into the foreseeable future away from the Home Ground. I will still be on the website from time to time, and seeing as the folks live in Sydney I will be back from time to time, but with ever decreasing frequency, I think.

On that note, I'd love for us to all get together before the Christmas Rush takes up all of our time. However, on the first weekend in December, there is an Air Show in Temora. Temora is a fair distance from Sydney, and if anyone is interested in attending, I'd love to take a nice long trip out there.

Temora Aviation Museum Website

It's a great time to see some flying history - so many aircraft at Temora that are restored to flying condition are one of only a handful of their type in the world.

It would also give Desert Runner a closer target to aim to meet up with us, for those of us already drooling profusely during the nights at the prospect of his delicious 5 speed. (Should he be able to free himself for that weekend).

It's also a nice, cruisy drive - loads of wide open space and nice easy roads. Mr Man In Blue will probably be out there too, so we have to play nice though.

The drawbacks are:
From memory, it's around 4 or 5 hours to get out there, and it would be a 5 or 6 am start for the people wanted to do it in one day only.
If you were to go down on the Friday or the Saturday, stay the night, and drive directly home on the following day, that'd be a better option for most people. So you're looking at a full day plus possibly part of the previous night, and the cost of accomodation.

---------------------------

I shall be going to Temora, so those who wish to come along would be welcome.

If there is enough interest we can always have a day trip to somewhere in the Sydney basin the following weekend. It is getting close to Christmas though.

Anyone who is interested in going to Temora, or would like to get together but can't get to Temora and is interested in a different approach (on the following weekend) please post in this thread.

Temora is fantastic. Shame I can't be there. I've been heaps of times, all though, not in the last few years.

My last time was in 2004 after they'd just got the Hudson back.

McTaff...I take it you serve?

Matt

sound great

sound like a real good drive. I've been wanting to take the car for a good run since I got it but to date have gone nowhere - no time. Would be great to meet up with fellow SVXers, even if it means you are leaving Sydney soon.

Only problem is last time I filled up I got 220km to the tank, so either the guage is reading wrong or it did'nt fill up properly last fill - hope so otherwise it will use heaps on a run like this.

You should get at least 350km to 400km from a tank in traffic, and on the freeway, I have managed 700+km. If you wish to come along, bring yourself a decent filled jerry can just in case.
You'd know if you had fuel leaks - you'd be able to smell it. Unless you've got a pressure leak in your fuel delivery you shouldn't be having any problems.

----

Dynomatt: I'll be off to HMAS Creswell and following that, I'll be posted to HMAS Albatross for the next 8 years. RAN is a harsh mistress.

----

DesertRunner: I just might take you up on your offer, sounds like a smashing idea!

----

Anyone else interested in coming? I'll probably arrive Friday and have to leave Saturday night though. I've just been informed I have a course on the Sunday, so I will have to be back in Sydney for that.

My gauge reads empty about 50kms after filling up, i just use the trip meter, every 300kms or so i fill up with about 40 odd litres, i get 400 kms if i push it, and on a trip to melbourne i got 550kms!

TODAY'S DESTRUCTION OF ARRANGEMENTS HAS BEEN BOUGHT TO YOU BY THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT, CANBERRA.
(Spoken by McTaff)

I've been informed that the "better half" is working a late shift (ending at 21:30 Friday, this had been somewhat catered for).

As previously mentioned I have a course I must attend (Sea Safety) on the Sunday. This was NOT catered for, sprung on me at the last moment and I'd never manage to fit any time in between travel to that end of NSW and back, so I'm very reluctantly having to give it a miss. Tony, I'll try to catch up with you before I ship out, perhaps in January if I am allowed the time.

This thread is now dead.
