SVX Brakes in question

OK, so I'm over helping Brian change the cam cover gasket on his 944 Turbo. We also decide to check the brakes for wear. What I see shocks me!

This car weighs several hundred pounds less than the SVX but it has vented rotors on the REAR that are 1.25 inches in diameter bigger than the FRONTS on our SVX. The pad surface area is at least 75% bigger than the SVX on both fronts and rears.

What am I getting at? This particular model Porsche has the same size tires and rims (225/50-16 and 16x8 rims) as the SVX and yet they can fit much bigger brakes in that space than Subaru did.

Am I missing something (Other than good brakes)?

Perhaps I should investigate if one of Porsche's aftermarket brake makers will create a set of rotors in our bolt pattern and see what it would take to get the calipers bolt up...

Doug (Dreaming of no brake warping after the covered bridge tour)

Just on the subject of brakes, Blake (1992 SVX owner) and I checked out a Eunos JC Cosmo 20B (triple rotor twin turbo - see http://www.3rotor.com and http://www.dmrh.com.au)

Aside from phenomenal accelaration and torque, its ability to brake from a truely ludicrous speed (I, nor Blake, was driving) was gobsmacking!

A nice set of 4 piston AP Racing brakes sets would not go astray!

Regards

James
