SVX Service

To date I've been servicing mine at Liverpool Subaru - and it costs an arm and a leg.

Where do you service your SVX?

New Sydney member?

Hi acasaar, tell us about your svx! (year, col, kms etc

I just had mine done through protecnica racing and it goes like a dream. Only problem is they don't usually service- Jason is the one to ask about service providers as he does a lot of research.
If you are keen to meet up with other keen svx enthusiasts we would love to go for a drive.

Mine is 95, green, 115ks, pics in my locker, had it for 3 years.

My Car

Yes I'm a new Sydney Member!

The car's a gunmetal '92 SVX with 150K odd kms and I've had it just under two years. No mods. MRT quoted me 7k to turbo it!

Pleasure to drive, when I get a go (wife drives it most of the time).

We have two SVX's in the family, the other's my dads. Similar specs but burgandy in colour.

I've been on the forums before, just never noticed the 'Down Under' section. How I got here is a funny story.

Every now and then we pass another SVX, but normally in the Penrith area.

Anyway on Saturday on Lane Cove rd the car in front of us was a red SVX. We stop at the lights, he jumps out the car and passes me the URL to this forum!

When do you guys normally meet?

Driving

We meet very sparodically!

If you check the lockers you will find pics of last year in Bowral. This was our biggest drive day (about 10 - 12 svxs- or was there less?)James (Jamsvx) was very good at organising meets but moved overseas- Jason (JDW...) now has his svx.

We have had a few smaller drives since then- it would be good to arrange another one- maybe your dad would like to come in his as well

Is your car ever parked in manly? I have seen a gunmetal one in the car park a few times but have never sighted the owner. I have also seen a green one the same as mine in castle hill and it has a penrith Subaru sticker on the back.

Will you be around in January if we try to arrange a drive?

I'll get the contact details of where svx was last serviced (they threw in a free battery!)

Did somebody mention my name.....................?

Yes - I am still here....!

It's true - having an SVX (or any car for that matter) serviced at a dealer is usually VERY expensive.

In addition, you have no idea who is working on your car, and what they are doing - because you simply hand over your keys, and they take the car away!

I am lucky to have a good friend - whose uncle happens to own a workshop!

As a result, I get a very good price for all services, and I am able to watch all of the work being done!

We should all meet up for a drive in early January!

Jason.

Hi and welcome!

Look what happens....I leave the country and they all come out of the woodwork! Glad to hear that the red light dash (either to and from an SVX!) is alive and well....my wife had to put up with that a lot!

That makes two on here who have SVX's in the family like that...and silver is involved *hums tune from Twilight Zone*

Oh....people are banned if they don't post pics!

With servicing, depends on what is needed. I did my own filters, oil and the like every 5,000km - complete overkill but if you saw the way that I treated that car (nay...worshipped!) you would understand.

I used to get mine done at Penrith Subaru (bit of a hike for me) but the service manager had been a SVX Master Tech and told me things about little problems and niggles that i had never heard of - that dealership also had through an inordinate amount of used SVX's so you can see their interest - he has since moved to Denlo though but that was after I sold my car so did not really matter.

First thing I would recommend is to put in a tranny cooler and replace the fluids - would highly recommend Jim Davies at Girraween - he did mine, Blakes and another SVX - was about £400 (opps...$400 - wrong country)

Anyways, glad to have you onboard!

Cheers

James

This car has had it's tranny replaced. Would it still need the tranny cooler?

Yes.

The Subaru gearbox agent in the UK, based in Glasgow will not guarantee tranny rebuilds unless a tranny cooler is plumbed in.

It is neither difficult nor too expensive, and will give you a lot of protection against tranny replacement for small outlay.

Read up on the last 3-4 months' posts on the European Forum. There has been much discussion about it there, and links to information you can use.
