Ron,

When you find one, can you let me know where to get another? I am looking for one too.

vinegar in H2O and waxing

Do you wax after every wash then? I wash mine every week or two but can't imagine waxing that often.

Use white vinegar, all others are flavored, ie; apple, wine, tarragon.
white vinegar is the simple form, no complexities. Also, if you have hard water never never put it in your window washer tanks. Lesson I learned from Palm Springs, worst water for spots on the planet. Here on the Oregon coast water spots are unheard of, put Oregon coast water in everything, except the SVX radiator, too much iron in the local water.

too late, i used the apple cider type.
as to how it worked:
it took off most of the water spot's mark (i can easily see through the windows again) but the outlines of them are still there. basically, it now looks like a meager water spot vs. a thriving grandiose variety.
my method was to dump undiluted vinegar onto a cloth, scrub away like crazy, wipe down with another cloth, and finally go over the area with windex.
i didn't bother with the paint.

Lightbulb vinegar

Try leaving the vinegar soaked towel on a glass area to desolve the water spots. The vinegar needs time to desolve the solids.

i was considering trying that the second go-around. the first time i applied the vinegar and scrubbed, it left a cloudy appearance--even after wiping it down. the application of windex fixed that luckily. although i doubt this would happen, i certainly don't want the vinegar to etch the glass.
any of you think there is any possibility of this happening? or am i just being overly cautious?
thanks.

OK, no I do not wax every time I wash the car. I usualy wax at every oil change. (well, I have been so last latley that I wax allmost every time I wash )Vinegar will not etch the glass unless it is some scary vinigar. Glass is one of the toughest surfaces around... much tougher than you stomache (if you put large amounts of whiskey on glass, it wont thro up.) Yes, white vinegar would be better, but I ususally just use what I have.... I only vinegar when I have hard water spots, and I avoid thm like the plauge/ It seems I end up using vinigar after every time I take the blazer and go wheeling/..... Hmmm that means the wife parks the SVX where it can get wet, but the blazer NEVER gets spotted.....

the vinegar should be 5% acid, try it on a piece of glass not on the SVX, then dilute if you find etching.

Try Bathroom Spray Cleaner

Some bathroom spray cleaners (Fantastik makes a good one) are formulated to clean hardwater stains. I use it on my boat to get the lake water stains off the glass and it works fine.

Cleaning with the vinegar/water/soap solution didn't get the water spots off of my car. This may be a dumb quesiton, but, will using only vinegar and possibly letting it sit on the car (i.e. hood and roof) damage the paint or just remove wax and hopefully the water spots?

Test an area under the hood or in the trunk to see what happens, don't start on the exterior finish.
