I'm looking to install a new double-din CD player and speakers. Does anyone know what to look for the CD player and for the speakers?

First off, id like to say welcome to the sight, and welcome to another IL svxer.
Basically it comes down to personal preference and how much you are willing to spend. For decks, kenwood, alpine, pioneer, premier, sony all make nice units varying for very inexpensive to almost 3k Speakers, depend on if you want to add a sub, you may get 6.5 and 6x9s that produce less bass and more mids and highs and let a sub handle all low frequencies. JL, Kenwood, MB, Alpine, ..... just goto a few stores, listen to stuff in cars...see what your ears and wallet like

Kvnobrien,
I have been to the website on how to install the stereo. It is a very good site, but unfortunately it does not say much about the speaker replacement. Thanks. |

alright if my memory serves me correct...you remove the bottom of the rear seat...this will expose where the screw is that is holding the driver/passenger window panel...you want to unscrew that *(i cant remember if there are more bolts or not, possibly if so remove them) then pull towards the front of the car and remove then unclip the power...this opens you up to the rear deck lid screws...you want to remove those, then slowly and VERY CAREFULLY pull the rear deck lid forward..the metal edges though really have a tendency to scratch the hell out of the car so be careful...then comes speaker removal...the front two screws are easy and obvious how to get out the last two youll need the little bent screwdriver that is shaped like two L's facing opposite directions...that should be the majority of it...not to sure if im forgetting anything i replaced my speakers a few months ago...hope this helps, just take your time thats the best advice i can give

The right tool for the job
Buy a SkewDriver to get those back screws out. It will allow you to access very tight areas. The picture shows it with an extension. with the bit directly in the Skewdriver, you can get in places with about 1.5" of clearance.

Radio / Speakers
Hi, just wanted to put my 2 cents and then some. I am going to be attempting to install a 2002 WRX 6 disc/ radio head unit with factory subwoofer in my SVX LSI this weekened. I got sick of changing CD's all the time. The subwoofer will be going underneath the passenger side of the instrument panel. I have more than enough wiring from the factory wiring harness that connects the head unit and sub to install there. I am going to loose a little foot room, but that ok, I won't be sitting there. I have all the connectors that I need including from David (SVXdc) to hook up to the factory wiring harness. Ane the connector that plugs into the radio itself from Scosche (www.scosche.com) part number# SU03RB for 1993-UP Select Subaru's. I already changed all my factory speakers except for the tweaters on the dash, to Pioneers 6 X 9's in the back. And Pioneer Premier 6 1/2" in the front. Darn, if I only knew I could of gone up to a 6 3/4" in the front, oh well. But I have to say getting to the back speakers was hard. You have to go in, at the back of the passenger area and remove the back deck panel! Not a fun job, glad I already did it! FYI, careful not to break the back deck, it is just made out of compressed particle board! Anyway hope this helps.
P.S. to get to the rear speakers, you will need a "L" shaped philips screw driver to remove the screws. The angle of the back glass in relation to the screws is very tight. You can probably get one at the local hardware store. |

just wanted to let you know that the powered sub from the WRX is pretty crappy. if you got it cheap, i guess thats alright, but its not a 'tight' sounding unit. i'd replace ours immediately, but the WRX is the wife's car (she's never had a car with a CD player, let alone a 6 disc changer and a sub. )

Sorry to revive a long dead topic but I'm trying to replace my rear deck speakers right now and I seem to need a wiring adapter, anyone know where to get them?
They are Infinity 9602i. The 2 male ends are too far apart to fit the standard adapter. [img=http://img282.echo.cx/img282/3893/speaker7fk.th.jpg]
