help needed to recharge AC system

The AC system needs to be recharged so I bought a recharge canister at the auto parts store. It says to attach to the low pressure port; where is that located? how can I tell I have the correct port? Has anyone done a DIY recharge and are there problems or advice on performing this at home rather than the $150+ at the garage?

Re: help needed to recharge AC system

I recharged mine years ago. Be sure you use the correct gas......
Next find out what is the low pressure line.
Get the kit that has the gage
If there is a stop leak one get that
If u charge it and it only lasts a few weeks you have a bad o ring.
Is the compressor running in AC ?
Instructions are quite clear on how to find low pressure side.
I ended up paying the money. Well worth it it will freeze me out of the car even at 85 deg out side.

Thanks for the info. The compressor is running. Is there a photo, someplace, that can show the low pressure port on our SVX's?

It's right by the oil filler cap. It should have a light blue cap threaded on it.

Re: help needed to recharge AC system

You will see the A/C line and the large bulge right in front of that is a screw on fitting, on mine its screw on because its R12 on new one or converted one it will be a R134a quick fitting, but it will be in the same place either way.
you want to be sure not to overcharge there is a sticker that says how much the system uses if your bottle is less then that then your fine you may need to add a little more but if your bottle is more then that you will need to stop it from all going in.
