I'm back!!

Just purchased a 97' Bordeaux LSi this past weekend. It has high miles and needs paint. I purchased it as a project car and the fact it's a 97'. It will be a work in progress and I'll post updates as they happen. The transmission slips once in a while in 4th gear on the highway and has some delayed shifts in the lower gears. Included with the car was a new internal filter and pan gasket. I'm going to replace the filter and check the adjustment on the brake band. I'll post back results when finished. I wish we would have kept our 94' Bordeaux LSi and have always regretted selling it. I purchased the car from Jan97svx and I'm now the 3rd owner of the car.

These symptoms seem to indicate a simple lack of transmission line pressure. IMO, I would follow the official Subaru Service manuals and first off, before doing anything else, get the line pressure checked.

NOTE: Make sure it is done properly and not by some outfit looking to sell you a expensive transmission overhaul, as this could be a rip off, as has been done to hundreds before you

Repairs could amount to no more the than the replacement of solenoid A and, for good measure, cleaning out the valve body passages, which does not involve removing the transmission and is not horribly expensive.

Driving the car with the transmission slipping will quickly result in the need for a complete transmission rebuild.

Re: I'm back!!

So I've done some work on it already. I drained the transmission, replaced the internal filter and adjusted the brake band. I went and test drove it and the transmission now shifts normal again and doesn't hold the lower gears like it did before. I haven't taken it out on the highway yet to see if it still slips at higher speeds. I also drained and replaced the fluid in the transfer case and rear diff. I purchased new front door speakers but have yet to install them.
