Exclamation Spoiler Mod (with how-to photos)

.

Today I decided to move my rear spoiler back. I was bored, and had nothing better to do.

Here's the HOW-TO:

1. Before

2. Unscrew these nuts (red arrows)

3. Spoiler removed

4. Spoiler off the car

5. To drill the new holes, i used a different sized bits to gradually enlarge the hole, so as to not damage the paint around the new holes. Also, putting masking tape over where the new hole will come through will drastically reduce the chance of the paint chipping off around the hole...Drill Bits

6. Drill a hole at the yellow arrow, (on both sides)..Like this.

7. Next, put the spoiler back on so it fits in the back holes. The studs on the spoiler will leave a little scratch mark where the new holes for the front studs need to go...Like this

8. Drill the new holes.

....Top Side

9. (Optional, but recommended) I covered the holes with old pieces of vinyl i had laying around, Covers and filled the back in with ..Silicone caulk.

10. Then, put the spoiler back on, using your newly-created holes, and bolt it on. BUt you will encounter an issue.

...PROBLEM:..The bolt for the back is not long enough to be able to thread the nut back on.

...SOLUTION:..Turn the nut around, and tighten with vise-grips or other pliers.

....Result

....Result on other side

11. Step back, and enjoy.

....New Right

....New Left

....Movement Measurement

....Final Product

NOTE: You can see how much "new" paint shows in the "New Right" picture.

It's not that noticeable, but that's probably because i keep my paint in excellent condition, and I have taken off the spoiler to clean under there before.

As far as the original holes in the front slowing... the edge of the hole is JUST under the spoiler. You can’t see the hole, but you can see the vinyl that I used to cover it. Definitely make sure you cover or fill in the old hole, or you might get a wet trunk.

Hope this helps anyone wanting to do this.

You did a great job with the write-up and photos. I really do like the spoiler much better moved back. It does a lot for only being moved so little. It makes the car look much more sleek.
