Removal of Stereo

Does anybody have the directions on how to remove the stock Stereo and CD player for a SVX? I dont want to damage anything prior to trying to replace it with another stock unit.

1. pry off the black round thing on the door
2. unscrew the screw on the black trim.
3. unscrew 2 screws on top
4. yank out the cage (yes from the door)
5. unplug the cables
6. unscrew the units
7. remove the units
8. screw in the new unit..

you get the idea.

Just a couple of notes to add to this install (with Gavin's premission, no less). DON'T cut the antenna leads as prescribed. Unplug them from under the driver's side of the tranny tunnel. Pull back the carpet, at the top (where the console meets the tunnel) and you'll see them. Then, when you get ready to take the stereo out, you'll have to give them a sharp tug, but, they'll come out.

Note number two -- if you're replacing with an aftermarket stereo, you won't need the "Y" adaptor. Just plug into the appropriate plug of the two leads (one is male, one is female, use whichever one fits, it'll be the correct one). One lead is for the antenna in the rear windshield which is only good for units that use "diversity tuning." Your aftermarket unit, likely won't have this -- if it does, you'll have two leads, just insert them appropriately.

Have fun!!

Randy (svxeno) put together an improved, MS-Word version of Gavin's doc. You can download that from his locker.

I've written a totally new-and-improved HTML version, available here.

I now have wiring harnesses for the SVX! See my post here, in the For Sale forum for more info.
