WTB: cam covers

I'm looking for a pair of the plastic cam covers pieces. The ones beneath the cam gears. Mine are cracked and leak to much oil. Please advise if you have any available?
Thanks

Re: WTB: cam covers

? do you mean cam seals? covers are usually refered to as the timing belt covers. they dont leak oil. cam seals will though. do you have a pic of them to post so we can help out better?

Re: WTB: cam covers

The rubber gaskets for the cam gear covers will leak oil, but the real problem is that they have oil to leak. There should be no oil in there. You probably need to replace both cam seals and the front crank seal.

806732150 Oilseal-32x45x8 (camshaft) $6.11 (need 2 of these)
806733030 Oil Seal $7.17 $5.46 $5.46 (front crank seal)

Re: WTB: cam covers

He's probably referring to the timing belt covers if so....plan on buying new ones, it is highly unlikely anyone at this point has crack-free timing belt covers. They aren't too expensive the front center timing belt cover I just purchased was about $60.

I posted/inquired in this forum section about the same thing not too long ago. I ended up purchasing all new and I still managed to crack one on installation, boy was i PO'D!!!

Re: WTB: cam covers

I do believe he is referring to timing belt covers. Unfortunately replacing them and the rubber gaskets for them without also repairing the source of the oil leak will only result in further leaks. The rubber gaskets for the timing belt covers will get elephantitis pretty quickly when oil gets to them, they'll swell up, and the leak will be back.

The most common source of the oil leak is the front main seal and cam seals. Could also be the power steering reservoir leaking down from the top, but that would be pretty obvious.

Re: WTB: cam covers

I agree since he'll be replacing the plastic covers, it'll be a good time to replace seals and plugs. You provided the part number for the exhaust seals...the part number for the intake plugs is 807045030.

Re: WTB: cam covers

Thanks for everyone's input. The Part that I'm looking to purchase has the following part numbers on it.
13532AA002 PP
(13568AA060)
I recently purchased the gaskets for this plastic cover. The description on the gasket package says "for sling belt cover". there are two of these covers on the front of the engine under the timing covers. The part number for the other cover is.
13533AA002 PP
(13569AA060)
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Re: WTB: cam covers

I had a few misc covers laying around, once I pull my engine out and swap it then I will have some covers there, not sure of the condition of them though. I won't be needing them, I run open timing belts, and have been for years, so if my covers are in decent shape you can have them.

Ok, I'm very curious as to why you would do that?

Why not? Hocrest does the same thing.
I don't see why it would pose a problem. Perhaps in winter if snow gets packed in there and jumps the belt, but that can be limited by keeping the belly pan on. It's a non interference engine. Keep a c clamp and a couple tools in the trunk, if it jumps for some reason, easy enough to fix in about 10 minutes. Also makes doing a tbelt job pretty damn easy.

Re: WTB: cam covers

1986nate hit the nail on the head. I originally started doing it with EA82's and just carried it over to the EJ/EG's, makes changing the belt a breeze

So would you have to take off the crank pulley when you change it or no?

What about rain/water splashing on there?

Re: WTB: cam covers

It would pretty tough to get the timing belt under the tensioner pulley with the crank pulley still on. Even though it may be doable, taking off the pulley would make your job a lot easier.

Can't be any worse than oil dripping from leaky cam and crank seals like are so common now.

Yea but it can't be good either. Wonder how much weight it saves, lol.
