Depends on what your setup is... what kind of 5speed you got in there?

Hydro clutches should have something on the back of the pedal for adjustment before it hits the slave cyl. if I remember correctly...

I know on mine (97 impreza) I've got the last year with the cable clutch, and the cable itself has a long screw/double locking nut combo on the end of it where it mounts to the bell housing before it hits the clutch fork.

Definitely need more information to be helpful on this - and to be honest NASTICOC will be a better reference for anything regarding the clutch - only a very small number of members have their cars 5spd converted.

I actually have the same issue. I never really looked into adjusting it since I got pretty used to just pushing the pedal through the firewall* to get into first and reverse.

It's hard to say. The whole trans was pretty much ass when I got it and I seemed to have figured out the method to driving it without grinding anything, but there are occasions when it will just not go into first or will get stuck in 2nd and I have no idea why.
2nd takes a little bit more force than the others to get in so there is definitely something worn-out in there. Sometimes I can slide it in but if I do that in traffic I'll be pissing someone off going so slow.
4th has a grind that only goes away with cold fluid and a delicate double-clutch shift below 4k.

To be sincere I think that when I get it rebuilt there should be no reason for it to have any real problems. Seems like a pretty decent hunk of junk considering I've been rampaging the **** out of it.

Re: how to adjust the clutch?

You did bleed it right? if so there is an adjustment on the back of the pedal from what I understand.

Re: how to adjust the clutch?

I am all ****ing over this! (as long as its sort of like the hydrolic system in my DSM and Evo)

There should be an adjustment rod on the back of the clutch pedal that leads into the firewall. This rod is directly connected to the Master Cylinder. There should be a locking nut on the rod that holds it in place. Loosen the locking nut will allow you to turn the rod. Looking at the firewall as if you were sitting in the drivers seat, turning the rod "IN" (clockwise) will bring the engagement point more to the top, and turning the rod "OUT" (counterclockwise) will bring the engagement point closer to the bottom (foot on the floor).

Make sure you tighten the lock nut when you are done.

if you want/need visual aid, search "jacks transmissions" on youtube, or go to vfaq.com and look under "drivetrain" and click on "adjustment".

Re: how to adjust the clutch?

You're welcome.

Like anything, adjust in small increments. Its probably different car to car, but a full turn will move my clutch engagement a full inch higher or lower. You do not need to tighten the lock nut to test out where the clutch is. Just turn the rod, get in, put the car into first, slowly release the clutch not using any gas. When you have it where you want, go back and tighten the locking nut.
