Intermittent A/C operation
I have a '92 that I am having trouble with the A/c on. The compressor is cutting in and out randomly. Sometimes it blows very cold and other times it is feels like just the fan is blowing. Can anyone tell me where to start with troubleshooting this problem? Thanks for your help! kuhnox in Lexington KY

It might be freezing up. Start by checking pressures. Also the compressor might have an overload protection. Is the compressor very hot to the touch.

Thanks so much for the info. I will check for heat this weekend. I am taking it to a local shop Tuesday for further investigation.

Sounds undercharged to me. The compressor will not run if it's not charged completely.
