Fav Downunder Roadtrips (Pic's Please)

Our family went on a weeks break down to Whangapoua on New Zealand's Coromandel Peninsula last week.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...a3c5262ec3eb28

We would normally pack everything into the RAV4 and a trailer but as it turned out I was going to have to do a day trip back to Auckland during the break so we decided to take two cars.

Gotta say that my Pearlie loves the windy roads between Thames and Coromandel Township... we stopped along the way to take in the view and an opportunistic shot of the subie...

Anyone else got any favourite roadtrips??

Re: Fav Downunder Roadtrips (Pic's Please)

No pics sorry, but I do enjoy these roads;

This is probably my most favorite road in the country, the Danseys Pass from Kurow to Naseby but you cannot be afraid of driving on gravel or heights (the g00gle street view car wimped out!)..........
http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&so...,1.234589&z=10

This is what at least 1/3 of the distance is like...........

If you go through Danseys Pass you have to stop here ( http://www.danseyspass.co.nz/ ) for lunch.

Whakamaru to Turangi.............
http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&so...469177&t=h&z=9

The Vinegar hill cutoff, the view from Stormy Point is quite spectacular..........
http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&so...,0.617294&z=11

This one is always good for a laugh close to home............
http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&so...,0.308647&z=12

This one is "interesting".............
http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&so...4&ie=UTF8&z=10

Awakino to Raglan is fantastic, but again gravel..........................
http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&so...24&ie=UTF8&z=9

Others that I can think of that I have driven and enjoyed................

Wanaka to Haast.
The road up to the Snow Farm in the Cardrona valley.
Arthurs Pass.
The road up to Denniston.
Scenic drive from Titirangi through to Kumeu.
Motueka to St. Arnaud.
Ashhurst to Woodville via the Saddle Road.
The Pahiatua Track.
Napier to Taupo is fun in light traffic.
If you time your trip between ferry loads of traffic, Blenheim to Parnassus is a good drive.
Mangaweka to Fielding via Peep-o-day (real place, look it up).
Queenstown to Kingston.

And one that is spectacular and I would rate highly but wouldn't take the SVX along because it is far too rough (including fords) is 'Dog Kennel Corner' to Kurow via the Hakataramea pass.........

There are others but that will do for now.
