Question My car started by itself!?

At work last night, I was outside getting a pop, when I saw my light's were flashing, then my car started !

It scared the **** out of me. I went inside my work to see where my key's were, since you can start my car with a remote. No one had touched my key's at all. I was the only one at work at that moment.
I think it's pretty spooky, but now I'm wondering if it has something to do with the remote system it has.
I went to shut off my car, and to see if anyone was leaving the area. There was one guy in the whole parking lot. He was a ways from my car, but still maybe his alarm(If he even has one) triggered my car secerity system Or it has to do with the old secerity system that was manufactured with the car. It no longer works, since I have a new one.

Any comments?

(I knew you guy's would get a kick out of this)

Wink ghosts...

Thats pretty weird!

I would guess the problem is with your after market remote starting system. There are so many radio controled devices these days, something triggered the system....

I would have freaked!....especially if I was just leaving the local bar and had consumed a quantity of adult beverages...

Haven't read the book yet, but every time that movie is on I have to watch (even though I have a copy of it) I think I could recite every line in it.
My wife just rolls her eyes.

In your neck of the woods I would hagve freaked if I could find find my car without falling off a cliff or into the creek after consuming such beverages.

My wife's remote starter has a function, where, if you hold down the number two button for five seconds, it sets the "auto start" function. The car will start by itself every hour and run for 20 minutes, then, shut itself off. It will do this for a total of 5 cycles. It's for those "extra cold" nights to keep the car warmed up and the battery charged. She has somehow managed to accidently engage this feature more than once -- in the summer, even. Check your instructions for this function and familiarize yourself with how to turn it off when it's accidently engaged.

Yes, I have seen that movie, actually. I was watching my car last night, waiting for it to drive off without me LOL
I'm a little tence, thinking it has a mind of it's own(That movie was pretty cool though, but when it really happens, you think again hehehe)

I don't have the manual for the system. The previous owners never gave me one
I don't know what to think. I just hope it doesn't do it again, my luck, I wouldn't know untill my gas is gone!.(or something worse)
Maybe it would have made thing's a little more interesting if I had been drinking

Well Deja, I hope that the car starting on its own was just a "feature" of your aftermarket alarm/starter.

I would say that the next time you are around a place that knows a thing or two about car alarms just stop in and ask them if they are familiar with your particular setup and whether or not your system has that feature.

What a cool system! Must eat a lot of gas though...

I'm working on one for this winter. I'm making a small box that fits over the grill, and then running a hose from it to the dryer vent on the side of the house. This winter when I get up, I'll put the dryer on "air dry". A half hour of that should do the trick........

....if the radiator doesn't clog with lint that is.... Don

We seem to have a new spook.
First it was the Message 40 Gremlin.
Then it was the Meet Monster.
Now it's "The Self-Starter".

Deja, you should be happy with this feature. Companies are always looking to hire self-starters.

or

Did the person that you bought the SVX from work for the Knight Foundation ?

Re: Keep 'um warm

Don I can't tell if you're kidding, but unless you plan to heavily insulate that hose, the air in it will probably cool down to a useless temperature within 10 feet of the house on those really cold mornings. Remote start is the way to go. Even on the coldest (single digit) mornings, it takes no more than 10 minutes to get the engine and interior to acceptable temps, and full hot air after a mile of driving. It does affect the mileage, but not as much as you would think.

I think I'll worry more about it, once it does it again.

Or, it was the SVX way of saying "I'm here, Drive me!" heheheh
