Re: Is this anyone here?

An EIN number is required when you have employees you are withholding taxes, ss, etc from. The Feds closed mine out after about 5 years of my just filing under my ss number.

Thanks Mike

I appreciate that you are. It's best if things don't descend back into the realms of the petty, like before. We've all grown up a lot since back then, least I hope we have

All I have to say to that is if he didnt have confidence in the quality of his material he wouldnt offer any warranty (he offers 90 days parts and labor) because it takes money out of his pocket to do a warranty claim. I use to run a retail store and I had to deal with warranty issues all day long so I know how deeply it can cut into profit. Now maybe he has had issues in the past, but that's just it, the past. You can bring up specific examples of what has happened in the past, but state it as such, the past, not present day dealings. My experience is I've had good service with him and none of my stuff has broke yet and I've pushed the hell out of my car.

As per the moderators, I will not bring up the numerous specific incidents. I make every attempt to adhere to the rules of this message board, but I will not be trumped upon by biased claims promoting someone who operates outside of applicable tax laws.

It just is not fair to any sane tax-paying American citizen, nevermind the members of this board who visit here less and less frequently because they are disgusted with his peddling of bull**** and half assed repair work, See: Differential bushings .

Young Tom and I refuse to be in rival with Jason's company that operates illegally. You cannot compare Jason Russell, who may still be collecting government financial assistance, to the same pricing standards with legitimate shops which have varying overhead expenses.

Re: Is this anyone here?

How come these forum posts quickly turn into against Budfreak/Jason when he's not here to defend himself.. I understand if people think he's hot-headed, but never when I've spoken to him.

He's done nothing but good for me, we've done a few parts transactions which arrived very well boxed and shipped immediately after payment, and he's been a great resource on helping me stop up a few leaks and saving my power steering pump. I think normally a mechanic would tell you to just toss it and buy a new one from him, but he's come up with some nice easy ideas and been really kind on aim/phone to step by step my way through it.

Anyways.. while Jason hasn't worked directly on my car, he's certainly done enough for me over the phone/aim to warrant me piping in here and saying he's a pretty good guy, even if he is a few thousand miles away.

If he's only 37mi from you, take advantage of that, not only is it very hard to find a worthy mechanic, its near nigh impossible to find one that knows anything about an svx.

Even the subaru performance specialist I went to in Vancouver (1.2 million population thereabouts) said he'd only ever seen one before in all the time he's had his shop open, and referred to it as ' That Spaceship lookin' thing..'

vunderbar.

Note also, I'm not a paid minion of Jason, he doesn't send me free parts for posting about him here on the forum, I actually post way more on the svx-network than his and thats simply because I have very little spare time.

Best regards,
Lorne

I will again state that agree that Jason's relations with his customers have improved, but what can you say about his tax evasion, or lack of business registration credentials?

Also note that when he is asked something unfamiliar of him, such as a headgasket replacement or a manual swap, he does not ask for help, but instead discredits the idea of doing it entirely and substitutes the potential customer's ideas for his own instead of asking for assistance from someone more experienced.

He learned how to swap our cars to 4.44 from OT, then went on later to try to discredit him. This is when the real problems with him made themselves apparent. Please let us not forget that. Tom K. has done SO much for this community.

The Tom's and I as SVX service providers have only encouraged new ideas and explored new territory instead of trying to find the easy way out.

Well you do not have to give specific instance, but it is just that your claims loose some of their credibility without them. But for the record I am saying that his work has been good with me thus far, and just because he may or may not have a tax license does not make him or his work any less valuable then yours. Do you not think he has an expenses either? Just saying. Now I'm sure your shop does fine work, but not everyone can afford you or have the time/money to travel the car out there. For those that do not have the ability to use you, he is a fine alternative. And I would say this about anyone.

This merely perpetuates the illegitimacy of his entire claim as an SVX parts and service provider.

There is this shop claiming "foreign car experts" just down the road from me. He said he's worked on many SVXs when he had his shop in Ann Arbor. He said all these things were wrong with mine and I need to replace all these seals, timing belt, pulleys, etc. Jason seen where the problem was coming from and said I didnt need to do all that other stuff and he even found the sticker saying the timing belt was done just over a year ago, something the "expert" never mentioned....

So if I have a friend that does not have a business or mechanics license that changes my oil for $1 plus oil in his driveway, should I not use him for those reasons even though he has done great work? Should I not pay the kids down the street $20 to mow my lawn because they do not have a tax license? Does the lack of one make their services any less valuable?

Maybe you're just trying to "protect the masses" or maybe you're just trying to increase your own customer base. But either way just to jump in and start bashing someone's services is not the way to do it. And that goes for both sides. Why don't you both focus on what YOU can do for the customer and not what is wrong with the competition and let the cusomer make up their own mind.
