Re: What do you think of my new wing?

Got one side roughed out:

The quarter trim is just resting on there, it would line up if it was attached. As you can see, the removal of the antenna was a good idea, it would have broken up the flow and made all of this work for nothing.

At this point, I no longer care how much it looks like the prototype, it looks so much better than stock, so I am very happy.

Re: What do you think of my new wing?

Nice work Elliott. Can you please take another shot like the first picture while standing closer to the door? and I am still worried how the finishing is going to be from the backside where lid meets wing...

Nice work though!

Re: What do you think of my new wing?

I took the pictures this way for a reason, I wasn't kidding when I said it was roughed out. The inside isn't finished yet, those angles cleverly hide the uglyness of the unfinished stuff.

There will be plenty of pictures when it is finished.

Actually, I did find one a little closer to what you described.

Re: What do you think of my new wing?

I know it is a long shot, but can you shave the side of the wing to make it more homogenious (without that apparent hump) with the side line of the trunk?

I think that is an optical illusion because of the overhang. If you lay a straight edge on it, there is no hump.

Re: What do you think of my new wing?

Not bad. and not drastically far off the concept, thematically.

Now... I want the concept's flared front fenders, and side skirts. I think they would look great painted up on my car, in 2005 Subaru Garnet Red Pearl, with black roof and trunk/wing.

Then to dye the grey interior vinyl black, re-cover the seats with seat heaters in them, and re-cover the sueded pieces with dark red alcantara. 6-speed drivetrain swap... Yeah, I am getting some ideas...

You can already buy the side skirts from SVX Motorsports Warehouse (I think his name is Dale?)

Wow, $850, they sure are proud of those things.

Oh god, I finally looked up the wing you were talking about. You're not allowed to talk about flow ever again.

Ha Ha Elliot, that must count as "Quote of the Month"

I think when svxpensive talks about flow he means as in flow with the lines of the profile, a two dimensional concept. For sure he does not mean airflow, because his horizontal beam [I just can't call it a wing] will disrupt far more air than it will flow.

It's brave concept, but should have been made with a wing across the top.

I wasn't even thinking of air flow, but he shouldn't be allowed talk about that either. I am totally familiar with the concept he was referring to. Somehow he made a long sleek car look short and stubby with that wing, it does not "flow" in any sense of the word. I'll admit, it is better than my joke wing, but there's not much out there that isn't.

Those are the official ones from Japan, I think they make a copy for around 500. Still a bit pricey, but you can't get em any place else.

The SVX is broadly projectile or bullet shaped; pointed in front, fat at the back. Because of converging lines going towards the front and the long front overhang it does indeed look sleek.

However I have long argued that it is heavy at the back, and the broad and deep rear panels and the wide flat bumper do nothing to alleviate this. So I'm not a fan of any of the rear wings as they add to this heaviness. No matter how much like a Probe the wingless car looks!

A fat booty is a fat booty, and wings just add to the general mass back there, and unbalance the overall design.

Having said that, if it must have a wing to keep car modders happy, the lower the better, and the US one you have fitted is the best of a bad bunch.
