Sov13t’s Engine and Supercharger Build

Prologue:

This particular project started around May of 2008. Around this time I finished all the minor things I wanted to fix up on the car and it was in great running order, so following logical progression I wanted to set a long term goal both for myself and my car – a challenge, if you may. At first, it was a vague, very general goal: make the SVX perform better. Thanks to numerous conversations with svxfiles (Tom) it started to shape up into a more defined yet very extensive set of objectives. I wanted to run the centrifugal supercharger and push the potential of our engines to new, perhaps even redefining levels. So, the R&D began…

Setting goals:

My current goals with this project are at 400+ all wheel horsepower. This goal went through multiple revisions, yet it is yet hard to say where we will end up. However, regardless of the numbers a parallel goal for this project is for the car to remain reliable. So we do not want to push 600+, having to start to worry about the transmission, axles, etc… just don’t want to deal with that… ***for now at least***

Summer – Fall 2008:

Throughout the summer and fall of this year Tom (svxfiles) and Tom (TomsSVX) helped me with finding proper parts for this type of application. And guess what? When both Tom’s come together and talk engines… it is absolutely overwhelming... That did happen at Pumpkin Carve 2008 – Which marked the ending of the R&D for this project. It was now time to start acquiring all the parts and pieces that were needed.

And so, I present you with the components/parts/pieces for this project:

Engine:

-8.5 C/R Forged, Gas ported CP Pistons Thermal and Friction coated
-Eagle Forged H-Beam Rods with ARP 2000 fasteners
-ACL Bearings
-ARP Head Studs
-Cometic Headgaskets copper treated
-ECUTune Intake and Exhaust Cams
-Custom valve springs
-Stainless Steel Intake Valves
-Inconel Exhaust Valves
-New oil pump, water pump, sensors
-New rollers, timing belt
-Ceramic coated Intake Manifold with some modifications for better heat exchange

Supercharger

-Jet Technologies T5 Supercharger - 1700 cfm
-Plumbing

Electronics and Engine Management

-Hydra EMS
-MadDad Gauges (Boost, Oil Press., EGT)
-Hydra EMS Wide band
-740CC Nismo Injectors
-GM Open Element IAT

Intake and Exhaust

-Tomyx
-Equal Length Headers
-Dual exhaust

Transmission

-04' USDM 6mt
-STi Flywheel
-SPEC Stage 3 six-puck clutch and pressure plate

Where are we now?

The majority of the parts for the engine and ems have been acquired with some exceptions that will be covered within the coming weeks. Also, the transmission and the intake parts have been running on my car for quite some time... however they are just as important for the overall picture... thus needed to be mentioned.

I believe slowly but surely this project will be moving into the assembly phase. So up next is the short block then hopefully the long block. Afterward it will be on to the supercharger. Updates will follow as we move along.

Budget

A lot of $$$

When?

Who knows?

Good to hear you've got it all planned out already!

The news from OT about the ARP studs was a great relief!

Good luck on the project!

I shouldn't be to far behind you guys

I'd like to. But as of right now, im not sure if I can afford it .

I deffinetly wouldn't have my "project" done by then.

Although I will be past the 200awhp mark
