Two thumbs up for Subaru!!

Recently I had bought a 2001 Legacy L (2nd Owner)and in the past month the head gaskets had failed. Well thinking I was going to be out $1-2k for repairs I called my local Subaru dealer( Earl Duff in Harriman Tn.) with the news. Well they explained to me that if my car was under 8 yrs old and under 100k miles it qualified for FREE repair due to a recall....woohoo!! Anyway delivered car on thursday afternoon and car was finished friday by 1pm and had all new gaskets top to bottom. I had them change the timing belt and a tune up while it was out ($80) So if you are a owner who has a 2.5 Legacy, Forester or Impreza and meet the 8 yr 100k mile criteria you qualify for this. Get this kind of service from the Big 3 yeah right

Get EJ25 head gasket "reliability" in a Big Three car yeah right!

You can't have it both ways; my Legacy puked one side, too - around 45k. My GMs before I went Subaru? Zero. Just playin' fair!

Re: Two thumbs up for Subaru!!

Well I should be giving more credit to Earl Duff Subaru as I have always had GREAT service from them. They explained to me they went back to the "old style" head gasket instead of the 3 piece(POS ) gasket. I havent had good luck this year but this helped me out when I needed it. And on the subject of the check engine light, Ill check it when the damn thing quits running altogether Kinda like the oil idiot lights in most GM,Ford and Dodge cars, it comes on when its too late hence the hefty repair charges.

The 3 layer gaskets I have found to be a better design and construction... Maybe the dealers need to mill the heads when they do them. Glad to hear you have had good luck with them though, a dealer like that is few and far between

I agree about Earl Duff Subaru....the best Subaru Dealer I've been to by far...

It is a Small Subaru only dealer, run by a family....
