Proper jack equipment?
Hey everyone. I've finally found some time to start poking around my car, but I don't have a good set of jacks and jackstands. What size, load limit, brand or whatever else I may need to know, does everyone here use?
I tried using the ones we have at our Support Equipment shop, but they're heavy duty 8 and 12 ton automotive jacks, and the lift points on the SVX are too small for the lifting platform on the jacks. The platforms were much wider than the jack points, so i'd essentially be lifting the car by the side-skirt, which is a no-no. Unless there's another spot to jack the SVX up where I have at least a 6 inch diameter clearance to use the shop jacks. I really wish I could use the 4-point auto lift, but the SVX is too low for the arms and lift points to get under the car. Thanks

Any good 2.5 ton or above jack ought to do the trick. As for jackstands, wider is better. The bigger the footprint the less likely it wil fall over.

I borrowed some photo's from SVXfiles locker to show the jacking points I use for a floor jack.
Rear; The circular frame mounting plate, just left of and below his yellow jackarm. Front; I use the thick part of the frame rail. At the left you can see where it has some brown dirt rubbed on it. You can also jack the entire front end using the engine crossmember. And the entire rear end using the rear differential.

Is your car lower than normal? I use a shop jack and it will go under the car. Also I have had mine on a few big hoists that will pick the whole car up - 4 point hoist. I didn't have any problem getting the car onto the hoist.
