if u want a CEL just unplug something... Off hand an 02 sensor would work nicely. As for your miss, I would imagine the coilpacks are doing it... Try testing each cylinder to see which is missing by removing the fuel injector clips. If you remove cyl 1 and the idle gets worse, plug it back in and move to the next one... and so on, until you find one where your idle stays the same, thats the cylinder you are having trouble with and work from there.

yes ive used this procedure before, but the car isnt missing at idle, so wouldnt unplugging any of the coils make it die?

not the coils the fuel injectors... But I wouldn't drive with one unplugged... I would check your timing belt though to make sure everything is aligned properly
