I reckon to angle grind it out through the bodywork rather than damage the screen. any views on this?
meanwhile off to santa pod now, anyone about just give us a look. Stand will be fronting generators and impact wrenches hopefully.

Paul, I would be a little worried the angle grinder could generate heat stress and crack the screen.

As far as I know, the usual way to liberate them is with piano wire fed through the black adhesive, fit handles to the wire inside and out, then use the wire to saw away the adhesive all around. Could you not give this a go? Is this method too slow, or what?

Thanks Chris. I would buy such parts if I knew what they were!!

What I really need to fix my car is the loan of an expert who knows all there is to know about wiring!!

Exactly, Chris.

There is a small bit of bodywork to do to make it perfect, but I have already addressed a lot of the jobs myself.

It will be a pretty high spec car when I have finished with it. You probably know that English and Euro spec cars tend to have practically all the bells and whistles, and have as much or more kit than the Japanese or USA equivalents. [with the notable exception of active 4WS, '91-'92 Japan only]

As an example, what my car has standard would be leather interior, electric driver's seat, heated front seats, driver's airbag, glass headlights, headlights power wash, headlights electric dipper on the console, separate antenna up/down switch [for the carwash ]cruise control, ABS, sunroof, CD changer in boot, rear foglights, heated electric mirrors.

What I am currently adding to that spec is JDM closing heated power mirrors, new '96-'97 OEM grill, Alcyone hood emblem instead of Subaru original, 17" Subaru German market optional rims, Power switch instead of ECON switch, so I can drive with the car in power mode, as I prefer it that way.

These above are mostly cosmetic enhancements, and to the casual eye, the car will still look basically stock.

Performance upgrades are still to come. I have another engine, and I am rebuilding that with lower compression and a supercharger. The 17" rims are to allow me to fit larger brakes and disks. I will be putting on a custom exhaust to allow for the the extra gas flow with the supercharger. I intend using all three cats as standard, I want the car to be clean. I may opt for hiflow alternative cats depending on cost, but it must be clean. I will retain the stock back box, because I want it to look stock at the back, and I want it to be quiet. Another keeper is the auto. The car must be auto, and it must have aircon. If the transmission breaks because of the power, I have a spare transmission also, and I will build that to Level 10 spec, and use that with the blower. Oh, nearly forgot, I expect to be using the blower at maybe 7 lbs, and I have no intention of chopping the car about to fit a Front Mounted Intercooler, with big pipes everywhere. Instead, I will be fitting a water injection kit to keep the charge cool.

It will be nice to get the car rolling with the cosmetic changes. It will be even better to get the engine work in and DRIVE! the new animal.

Something to look forward to. If you are in Ireland again, and she is finished, you can have a drive in it.

Joe

I might take you up on that... some day, next summer its back to Germany for 3-4 weeks, then I might be headed to Switzerland for college... so it might take me a while to hit up the green isle again but I do plan to return someday. and if my car ever gets built the way I intend your more than willing to drive it when you come to Minnesota... if you ever make it here.

Joe, re screen, was hoping someone would advise on best method of removal rather than cutting out with a grinder, maybe If I get a look at what the professionals use I can then make up a wire saw as you advise. The angle grinder option could possibly generate too much heat however I was looking at cutting quite some distance from the glass. I may end up buying the remnants of the shell complete with screen and paying a screen fitter to do the removal and installation.
Regards
Paul.

ABS Brake unit

Bryan - are there any parts for the SVX left that you were breaking earlier this year. i am after the ABS unit (the bit with all the pipes going in and out rather than the electronic module).

Any joy?

yours David
