Fun Road Central Cal
While Northbound on US 101 with the wife past Sunday I had the pleasure of rediscovering some old favorites. First we turned off at San Ardo, North of Bradley, and took the old hiway to just So of King City, fun, mainly open road, spoiled only by the presence of a County Mounty about 90% of the way. But re-entering 101 to the next exit, First Street King City, I didn't have long to wait for some fun. Following the signs for downtown until a left at Main St would put us there, we instead continued straight out Metz Road for approx 15 miles of the soon remembered combination of open country motoring and series of near videogame quality curves and whoopties ending at Soledad.
Differing from the old Hiway 101, Metz runs up the East side of the river and this particular Sunday afternoon was nearly deserted. My bride wasn't uncomfortable, pushing her wagon just a little harder than usual, with pretty decent sightlines into many of the twisties aiding confidence. 65-75 MPH was comfortable, and I was missing the SVX big time, but I most certainly was wearing a big smile by the time we were due to rejoin the legions of the freeway. Try it some time! Glenn
