It is indeed Matt Slap in Newark, DE. I will not bad mouth them any further until I hear back from them today. (I was p--sed off 'cause I sat in traffic for an hour).

Hopefully, it is the PS mount or something simple like that.

Nucar was in New Castle and is no longer a Subie dealership.
Castle in New Castle is now the Subie Dealership in that area.

Angry A (Matt) Slap in the face

Well, maybe you read my thread before about getting new
water pump, pulley, and crank and cam seals.

Went in to pick up beloved SVX yesterday.
Greeted with horrible alternator whine, and two beat
vibration coming from engine. Told them to fix it.

Pick her up today and I have the following new damage to report.
(You can see the lovliness in my newly created locker.)
1. Cracked timing belt housing mount. Left side
2. Ridiculous nut, washer, and bolt holding it on.
3. Damage to my passge. side door where they slammed it on my
brake Club.
4. All 4 top mounts for the double cooling fan are overtorqued and broken.

I guess they did not like making them go back and fix their crappy half-**sed repairs.

Needless to say I am furious. I generally expect to get my car back in slightly better condition than when I bring it in. $800 bucks this cost me. The GM was there and tsk tsked at the damage I was pointing out. "Oh, I've never seen this in 20 years". (Oh please)

Larry was right. Shoulda gone to that guy in New Town Square or the guys in Jersey. That's what I get for rushin' and not talking to everyone here first.

Oh, and they tried to con me into new boots (ergo new axles).
I bet they smashed them with a shop knife. Would not surprise me after this.

I am now going to fight these bozos for a total refund.

Fuming,
Bizarre

Wow. Just, wow. I'm not even sure what I would say/do because I would be so pissed. I would definitely fight it in the end, though. Good luck.

(Does it seem to anyone that more and more Suby dealerships keep going downhill?)

Not that it'll make you feel any better, but my SVX's fan and timing belt cover mounts looked pretty much the same when I bought the car (and it, too, had been serviced by a Subaru dealership). Less-than-artful wrench turning, certainly. But such engineering begs failure.

Good luck in securing that refund.

my car has had leaky cam and crank seals since I bought her in november, and it seems to be the time to fix the problem (Im getting tired of having to add a quart every two weeks). Instead of starting a new thread, I just figured I'd resurrect this one:

SO; all I need to do this repair is:

Water Pump - $86.62
Water Pump Gasket - $2.04
Thermostat - $9.80
Thermo Gasket - $2.66
Cam Seals - $6.42/ea
Crank Seal - $5.74
(and a new timing belt too, right?)

and I want to put a lightweight underdrive pulley on there while I'm at it.

Is there anything else I should take care of while Im in there, or is this basically it?

thanks in advance for your replies

Timing belt, and related items quote

Hi everyone,
Have a 92 touring w/82,000 mi. Was advised to do timing belt by other members.
Found a Suburu Dealer in Santa Cruz ,Ca that was recommended on the site. Dealer said he has experience with SVX's
Pls tell me if this quote sounds logical.
Dealer stated that the following parts should be ordered and be available for job
5 stationary idlers @89.36 ea.
Timing belt tensioner- 130.68
Water pump and gaskets- 155.95 plus a bit more for gaskets
timing belt-118.07- {470 installed}
He did state that the water pumps are often ok, and it may not be necessary to replace.
He also stated that if the other parts are ok, I would not be responsible for having ordered them. They could be returned.
If everything is necessary the total would be around $1500
Is this reasonable, or overkill?
Another member recommended them, and said that the timing belt alone would be around $200.That's what brought me to this dealer.{ 100 miles from home, and an overnight motel stay}
Any thoughts.
Thanks a lot

OMGHi2Me...It's been a while since I have had any replies to this thread. I hope that everyone is doing well! The discount is still in place for SVX forum members.

Water Pump - $115.00
Gasket - $2.36
Thermostat - $11.50
Gasket - $2.64
Timing Belt - $80.73
Idler - $89.06 x 2
Idler - $99.70 x 2
Idler - $64.06 x 2

It is definitely an expensive job to complete if you plan on having it done at a dealer. Check to see if there are any local guys willing to give you a hand with the job or if there are any local dealers who are Subaru friendly, or better yet, SVX friendly. Here in Maryland we have a guy who I personally recommend for SVX work as he is an owner and knows the product very well.

Thanks,
Jackie

hey Jackie, wouldn't mind having a dealer as a primary parts supplier for us, is there anything beyond that you can do for us here? We run a SVX specialty shop in Jersey

+1 for Jackie, as I've been buying SVX parts from her for years. Which reminds me that she still has some parts I have to pay for/pick up

Please, please, please read this carefully.

Go to LIC Motorsports in Novato. Do NOT waste your time/money travelling to Santa Cruz when there is a shop in your own backyard who does a MUCH BETTER job than any dealership could come close to doing.

I work for a local Subaru dealership in the North Bay, and used to work for another in Marin County. LIC Motorsports is one of only two shops in the United States that I can trust completely...hand them the keys, and have them fix it. I don't EVER have to question the work that's been done, and Adam (lead tech/owner) is more honest than God, often talking you out of things you DON'T need, even if you think you do.

www.licmotorsports.com

www.justin.tv/licmotorsports

^You can watch them live on the web, see their shop, see them working on cars, and ask yourself, "How many other shops have nothing to hide?"...

...then tell them that "Roo" sent you.

BTW, right now Adam is an SVX owner as well, although he's looking to sell it as he doesn't have enough time to enjoy it.
